UA or SDSU

For Business. What do you think? University of Arizona or San Diego State University? Pros and Cons. Please help. Having trouble deciding. I am a California Resident and Arizona is giving me a little money. I am concerned about the weather in Arizona and if I'd be happy out of state. Arizona is rated much better for pre-business.

I'd say Arizona

The weather is hot in the summer but most of the year it is beautiful and you will most likely not be here in the summer. U of A is better academically especially if grad school is a goal. We don't have a beach that is true though. My D transferred back from USD to U of A and while she misses the beach she is much happier being in AZ. She gets to visit San Diego for spring break and summer vacations still.

thanks for your help.

I agree with arizonamom. AZ is only extremely hot during summer months, but it is still bearable.

Ive worked at a summer day camp the last three summers, and just keep up the sunscreen and water, and you'll be perfectly fine.

I think AZ is a very good middle-state. There is mexico, california, and las vegas all within easy driving distances, which makes for a great time, and arizona has such a wide spectrum of opportunities and even climates. It's not all sun here. Flagstaff, Prescott, and Surprise, all within close range, have skiing during the winter.

Heh, ok, well Im pretty much in love with arizona. Very underrepresented in my opinion.

christalena2--wow, skiing? I didn't know that. Thanks!

I chose SDSU over UA. I'm pretty happy with my decision. Lots of recruiting ironically takes place at SDSU from Scottsdale. I would say they are pretty similiar academically. SDSU is a bit harder to get into though. The climate in San Diego is unbeatable- not too mention the city. Tuscon didn't have much of a city life- I also thought it seemed very dirty (perhaps because of the location....dessert). Do some due diligence. Cheers.

savedbythebell7---are you a business major? UA has a much higher rated business undergraduate program. I'm going to visit later this week but I'm looking for information that is not in business week, us news or college ******* reports. SDSU is harder to get into but Arizona test scores are higher. SDSU gpa's are higher but since I'm interested in business, I'm wondering how much I should weigh the UA higher rating versus the great location of San Diego. Also, are you local to SDSU? You would have the advantage of not being isolated at what is said to be a comuter school with many students leaving on the weekends or after class is over.

Thanks for your input. It is much appreciated.

There are about 35,000 students at SDSU. I'd say about 15,000 live on/around campus...many students also commute from pacific beach- which is another students destination. Kids in PB are from UCSD,USD, and SDSU. It does not feel at all like a commuter school. SDSU is also very highly rated. They have great internship programs through the school- mostly based in San Diego (a nice place for a summer internships). At U OF A (most internships are based around pheonix or tuscon...not the best places for a summer internship). The finance program at SDSU is fantastic, as is international business. There are millions of available jobs for marketing/advertising majors, as well as accountants. Best of luck,

U of A’s business program is much better and much better funded. Also keep in mind that San Diego State is a commuter school. You’ll have more fun at U of A and their business program is outstanding. I was accepted into SDSU as a freshman but chose not to attend. I was rejected as a transfer student. Currently I’m choosing between U. of Arizona and U. of Oregon, though I’m leaning towards Oregon.

The job market is not very good in San Diego unless you are in something like Biotech. SDSU's business program does have a good reputation though.

"At U OF A (most internships are based around pheonix or tuscon...not the best places for a summer internship)."

Ummm, not true. Phoenix is the 6th largest city in the country where many international corporations are now moving their headquarters because of the prime and cost-effective real estate. i say a great place for an internship.

I think he means it's not the best place to be in the summer because of the excruciatingly hot weather.

True enough, but in San Diego Las Vegas will be a little closer, Mexico will be a LOT closer, and you will already be in California. And with good skiing is nearby too.

UA retention is 79% vs SDSU's 84%. Anybody have any idea why more freshman students at UA don't continue on to their sophmore year? U of Oregon and U of Colorado are also 84%. UC Riverside is 86%. Do these numbers mean anything as far as student satisfaction?
