Some dollar stores have the cheap rain ponchos that can be kept in a pocket and brought out when needed.

But, you may prefer to buy a hooded rain resistant jacket anyway for your son for future use. At least stores have them on sale now. I recently got a rather inexpensive one at Costco for my son, but I think I saw some at Sams Club, too.

The concept of using a raincoat so rarely that you end up outgrowing it and not buying a new one is a foreign concept to me. It does rain at UA, so a new coat will be necessary if your S decides to attend. Wal-Mart sells some UA ponchos for less than the vendors, so you could go there. The Tuscaloosa Wal-Mart has a huge UA section should you want a souvenir.

As for tour stops, stop by Nott Hall on the quad. It’s the home of the honors college and your S will have classes there.

Alas, we are also on the hunt for a new rain jacket. Apparently in about 4 weeks, the stores will be full of them, but right now it’s almost impossible to find a small women’s raincoat. I have a call into a local store that says they have 2, so there will be an extra stop for me on the way home ;)

Penney’s in Louisiana has jackets and gloves marked down 50 to 70 percent. Great timing! Got son a pair of leather gloves, OJ style, and a light jacket with a hood. Not a rain coat, but not as absorbent as his heavy fleece jacket. Should work fine for this weekend.
