Uab

Alabama is my first choice but I’m also looking at UAB for their biomedical engineering program. I plan on doing the Instant Admissions Decisions in the fall but while I’m in Alabama this summer I thought I may as well do a tour of UAB.

Does anyone have any connections that can help set up a day at UAB?

parent56 (I think) is on here often and has info about that school. I will see if I can find them for you.

Parent56 can help you with UAB info.

Tutu…have you sent an email to the Bama’s honors college to set up your day at Bama? If not, set up your campus tour and then contact Allison and Susan in the Honors College to set up your day. Tell them your major, your GPA and your test scores. They will set up the rest of your day.

I don’t recommend visiting on a weekend because there won’t be people for you to meet with.

include:

Student’s name and contact info

Date and time of the Campus tour that you’ve reserved.

GPA and test scores (include likely NMSF if applicable)

Likely majors*

Career interests (including med, law, etc)

Anything particular that you want to see. *If you have an interest in seeing the new Science and Engineering Complex, let them know.

thanks vline for the pm…

tutu13, uab is the only school that offers a biomedical engineering program…
my son will be on campus all summer doing research so if you visit uab, i would be glad to get the two of you together, for a more personalized tour.

if you are interested in biomedical, you really should look into the sci’tech honors program as well… a very cohesive group of students, selective program which also requires an interview (if you really want that one, you will need to designate it as your first choice…you can select up to 3 honors programs at uab, but can only participate in one) Sci tech is research oriented, about 60 students per year selected, specialized courses specifically for these students, ie public speaking for scientific presentations.
If you qualify for merit aid…then you want contact heather mcknight who is over scholarships. Heather L. McKnight

I really suggest you set up a meeting with Dr Dianne Tucker who is the director of the sci/tech honors program and also with Clay Walls who is the student advisor.

as an added bonus…uab was one of only 12 high research universities selected to be a beckman scholar site this year…which means that this scholarship will be offered for your first 2 years, and certainly something you could try for… it is only offered to chem/bio or bioengineering majors… very nice scholarship with incredible research opportunities. S2 was awarded this just a few weeks ago

Jut remember yoU Ain’t Bama if you go there :-).

thank goodness! :)

We want OUR medical school back too!!

well that was pointless, sorry vlines…just not worth it, difficult to discuss anything on this board…have never understood why the competitiveness on this board…they are different schools, filling different needs, both great schools

tutu if you would like more info, please pm me.

My bad. I thought we were joking. Feel free to answer anything about uab asked.

Thanks parent56!!!

casinoexec… sorry too, i probably over-reacted… just have seen this path start before and didnt want to go down it… i am only a guest on this board as uab does not have its own, and thought this was another, uab is not as good as ua thread beginning. ( of course i would have to defend my position on that though :)

you’re welcome tutu… any idea when you might be visiting either school… i think during the summer you can do the friday instant admission too. have to register for the 10 am tour and have certain documents in sealed envelope. If you do an online app, its really easy…no essay, The honors programs require a short essay and then if selected for next step, an interview, (i know they can do those by phone if you are out of state)
