as there is no uab board, will post it here

anyone else’s child apply to uab? and sci/tech honors?

Son just accepted into sci/tech honors which is a wonderful program. undergrad research from 1st year! it also covers his phd costs. so now he has presidential scholarship for undergrad(tuition and room) and phd covered. had an interview saturday for the chem scholars program that he thinks went well. that one allows for chem research again from 1st year, and they become TAs for which they are paid for 4 years.

D seriously considered UAB because of their strong medical/research programs especially in Public Health. I still think that the sample honors syllabus they shared with us was one of the best we’ve seen. Since she decided to steer away from medical related fields (for now) she decided not to apply but she’s said it’s a strong contender for grad school if she swings back to a med related field.

When will your S find out about the interview results?

thanks guys! hopefully he will hear about chem scholars soon (within a few weeks). I wish uab had a UA type campus…he loves ua campus “feel” and he loved the programs he applied to there.
the lab research is so important to him, and he got more info about the new forensic chemistry track at uab at interview, so he came home really excited about the program.
of course i love the merit aid associated with it as well!
the in-state decision will be his (oos i get more say in due to monies involved) but he will have some difficult decisions to make

technically more from uab as it covers dorm cost. perhaps slightly less money wise as tuition cost at uab is less. but when you add in phd covered it is alot more. we also have pact plan so would end up free at uab. still just a little left at ua if we use pact. (scholarship at ua covered full tuition no R&B)

looks like uab is moving way up on list for my son. got accepted to chem scholars program this week, so now 2 research programs/scholarship and stipend as chem scholar. havent heard anything else from cbhp so i guess he goes into decision mode with this info. accepted into the research program at another school too, so seriously think it will be between those 2.

thanks robd… …son off at a key club convention this wkd, then gorgas competition to present his research and bio olympiad exam next week, so he isnt in the mood to seriously discuss final decision yet. and its his bday on sunday, wont see him until the week after, but arranged with his hall advisor to surprise him with pizza and cake for the dorm.

DS is still on UA vs S. Carolina until our visit.
check that - I’m insisting he do the USC visit because we have non-refundable airfare… For us - everything is way out of state!
