Whats everybody think of Suny Albany? I know it isnt the most beautiful campus ever but is it a good school?

You will laugh, but I am from that area. When the "new" SUNY Albany campus was built in the 1960s, it was advertised as the most beautiful campus in the country!

Sorry, I've long left the area, so don't know about its academic reputation now (though it was at the top of the NYS public university system when I was young), but I thought you'd enjoy my memory. :)

the college has a nice architectural style but it just hasnt been renovated so it just kinda looks old and outdated. I guess it could have been a bunch of big brown concrete bunkers if they wanted to make it really cheap.

I go to one of the nearby colleges (RPI), and the whole area is really rundown, depressing, cold, and snowy (just the way I like it). But, Albany does have the highest crime rate out of all cities in the Capital District of New York State. SUNY Albany is the #! party school in the nation. That's all I know.

one of best friends likes it alot. hes a "presidential scholar" or something. Its better than alot of SUNYs but Binghamton and Geneseo are still king.

I am from New York and now reside in California, the highest ranked Public University in New York is Binghamton, the best public college in New York is the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell..If you could get in it is the best deal in public schools offered to New Yorkers.

Albany is known as a party school and you should consider Harper, SUNY Geneseo and the private LACs over it.

Hi! Long Island mom here. Yes, Albany is a fine school. I would say Albany gets more kids from our district than any other SUNY. Alot of kids find Binghamton too confining and though they have the grades to get into Bing. they chose to go to Albany. Though Albany may not be the most exciting place to be, our kids prefer it to Bing. You will get a fine education at Albany and being in the State Capitol, you will get better internship possibilities than in Bing. or Geneseo. Husband graduated Albany many years ago-majored in History and worked as an Intern in the state Legislature. Do you have any idea what you want to major in? That too may be a consideration as to whether Albany is a good match for you.

I know a lot about SUNY-Albany because my cousin went there for two years. I talked to her often and I will tell you that SUNY-Albany is strictly a party school. There is no learning to be had. You won't learn much in your four years. My cousin was excited to go there at first because she wanted to party. However, partying soon became 100% of her life at SUNY Albany. She recently transferred to CCNY because she said she was not learning anything and that the students only cared about smoking and getting drunk. She wanted to have fun, but she wanted a quality education too. If you care little for academics, then SUNY Albany may be the place for you. Otherwise, you might want to look elsewhere.
