I talked on the phone with someone from UArts about the Unified auditions and she said that the dance audition is included in the 20 minute audition slot.

I was wondering how that would work audition-attire-wise. Do I wear my formal audition outfit or do I wear my dance outfit?

UArts has on-site accompanists, right? Does my dance segment have to be played on the piano or will there be a CD player?

About how long should it be? I have a cut from Livin’ On a Prayer by Bon Jovie that is 38 seconds long I think. Is that sufficient?

I will probably have more questions as time goes by

I don't recall that UArts was at Unifieds last year although I could be wrong. In any event, your best bet is to speak to or email the School of Theater Arts with all of your detailed questions. All admin offices are closed until Jan 2.

The dance audition at NY unifieds is very informal. Two years ago it was "optional" and you brought and performed whatever you wanted.

At NY unified there was not an onsite accompanist. (This is very typical of NY unifieds... I cannot speak for some of the other places, but there is rarely an accompanist at any of them.) Generally speaking, you should assume at any of the Unified that there will not be a CD player available and you should bring your own CD player, or an iPod with speakers.

But as Michael suggests, best always to check directly with Admissions people as things change.

Clarification From My Daughter...There was an accompanist at the Uarts NY unified, but NOT for the dance portion.

cool, thats what I need to know.

So would y'all suggest to go to the whole audition in my dancewear (for monologues and songs)? I'm thinking so...

freedom_fri911, why not call the admissions office and ask about this specifically? I wouldn't think they want you to do your entire audition in dancewear. I have heard of girls who just pulled their jazz pants on from underneath their dress or skirt and then pulled on some ballet or jazz shoes for the dance portion. Maybe you could do the male equivalent of that ...
