I did a year at Bama (born and raised in Tuscaloosa) but I took on too much with working 2 jobs my freshman year. I now want to go back after joining the air force but I’m now looking at Auburn and Kentucky as well. I want a major in the engineering department (can’t decide between computer science, software engineering, or mechanical engineering) and an Afrotc program is a requirement. I am also a new mom so having a daycare near would be great. I don’t care for the party atmosphere because I am a homebody. Should I reapply to Bama or should I venture out to other schools (Auburn or Kentucky). P.s. Kentucky was my first choice fresh out of high school but I was afraid to leave home and I couldn’t pay the out of state tuition.
Do you still have family in Tuscaloosa? If so, then that would seem to be a no brained. There’s going to be times that you’ll need family to watch your sick child.
All 3 schools will have a party atmosphere at night, but since you won’t be in the dorms, it won’t affect you.
My whole family is in Tuscaloosa and they all live 5 minutes apart from each other it’s just that I heard auburn has the best engineering department. And thank you I need every piece of advice!!
Check out UAHuntsville.
Auburn is ranked #56 and Alabama and Kentucky are tied at 99 in Engineering by US News, so all are pretty good. If you can make Auburn work I’d choose it, but logistics might favor Alabama.
