The University at Buffalo is pleased to report that 1,368 students from the group of 5,109 applicants who received the errant communication on April 13 were offered undergraduate admission to the university
Among this group of accepted students, 226 were offered fall admission; 770 were offered spring admission and also given the option of being on the waiting list for fall admission; and 372 students were accepted into UB’s Educational Opportunity Program, pending final review of their financial records.
Of the remaining applicants, 424 were not granted admission after very careful review of their applications, 15 withdrew their applications and 3,302 had incomplete applications and therefore were not considered for admission to the university. Application for undergraduate admissions to the university remains open until May 1. However, space is limited.
Since the April 13 transmission of the erroneous email, the university’s Office of Enrollment Management has strengthened and implemented additional internal controls to prevent future miscommunications. This includes multi-layered review of all email communications before they are sent. The office is also retraining all staff on the new and existing controls to ensure accurate delivery of email communications.
The university again apologizes for the emails sent in error by our Office of Financial Aid and we offer best wishes to all of the applicants in their future pursuits.

I just got my acceptance package!!
@JoshEss Congratulations! Will you accept or are you still weighing your options? My son is going. Hopefully he can room with his best friend.
Thank You! I’m seriously thinking I’m going to go. There’s no negatives to going to UB at this point. It’s far enough from home to get away from the city, but close enough for in state tuition.
Congratulation @JoshEss what was your sat score and major?
@Nahin.Imtiaz I took the ACT and got a 24. On my application, I put poly-sci, but i want to study physical therapy.
@JoshEss Congratulations on getting accepted!
@Nahin.Imtiaz I plan on going to CUNY - City College of New York and commute.
@JoshEss thats good. i plan on going to cuny colleges too.i didnt got acceptance letter yet from ccny tho but im pretty sure i’ll.Inform me if u get your decision from ub and good luck!

Does anyone think that everyone that has been accepted already received their package yesterday?
My daughter was one of the 5K who got the emails and is still waiting. We live in Buffalo area so I’m guessing if she was accepted, the letter would have arrived already.
She was accepted into quite a few colleges including Fredonia. She really loves that campus, but financially it looks like the cost of room and board makes it impossible since a parent plus loan isn’t an option. She really wants to dorm but I don’t see how that can be possible. I wish there was a way to make FRED work, but I have no idea how. And room and board at the private schools seem to be just as expensive…
What’s a good backup plan if UB doesn’t come through?..I suggested Buff State for a year and try again for UB. As a last resort…ECC which no one is too thrilled about.
@Nahin.Imtiaz I got accepted to UB, but Cuny has rolling admissions-- you should contact them.
@eab2k16 did your daughter have a 100% completed application ? The problem with some of the students who got the errant email was that their applications wasn’t complete. Also, have you contacted the admissions office for an application update? They won’t be able to give you your decision, but you will know whether or not something is coming in the mail. Buff state is a solid safety school for her to transfer into, if UB doesn’t work out.
Sorry that text was for @Tekoneko
@Nahin.Imtiaz I applied to CCNY as a transfer since I currently have 39 credits and will probably have total of 45 credits by the time I graduate high school. I had to apply to UB as a freshmen though.
Also I noticed that UB stated that people with incomplete applications wouldn’t be considered for admission. Do they mean that even if the students completed their application after April 22, their application still won’t be reviewed? My friend sent her files after April 14 (thats when she was notified about them being missing) and I believe that UB should be receiving it soon. Would her application still be reviewed?
@Tekoneko if I’m not mistaken, isn’t UB decisions rolling ?
I am a bit confused about american education system as i am an international student.can you please explain how u can transfer to ccny directly from high school as i’ve heard one can do that after entering a college. And why cant you enter ub like that process?@tekoneko
@Nahin.Imtiaz My school is partnered with CUNY Queens College and I’m earning college credits because I take classes at Queens College. All those credits can be transferred to any other CUNY schools. My guidance counselor told me it was completely different for other colleges since they might not accept any of my credits.
And on the UB website it says, “If you’ve completed at least 12 credit hours of college-level work after graduating from high school, you’re considered a transfer applicant.”
@Tekoneko do SUNY schools accept College Now courses ? I took CN Microsoft applications and I wonder how that could be credited to my future study, physical therapy.
@JoshEss They might take it in, it might be put towards your major or as an elective. Or they might not take it in. You have to ask them later. I was told by my guidance counselor that if they don’t accept the credits, you could write a letter to them saying something like “Our college class description matches with this class in UB.” and try to convince them into taking in those credits. If they don’t take it in after that, then there’s nothing else you can do because they just want your money. Some colleges are like that.
