Those considering UB for Engineering, how does it compare with Privates for you?
The old question of going to UB for ~12k per year (with 5k scholarship) versus an RIT/Drexel/Northeastern which would be ~28-30k with the scholarship you would receive from that college. Would like to hear your thoughts and opinions. Thank you.

Northeastern - and to some extent Drexel - offer strong coop programs. I’m not sure if UB is a match in that area.

Otherwise, I’d argue that UB is at a bare minimum a peer of these schools and may actually be better.

I think the only thing UB lacks that really bothered me at all was a lack of a co-op program. For such a strong program, it seems silly not to have one. But I guess that just leaves the students with more work for finding experience themselves before graduating.

Otherwise, I think the bang for the buck prevails.

Joseph- This is a tough decision.

My own son was accepted at all the schools he applied to (and he applied to a lot)! Privates. OOS publics, other SUNYs. Opted for and loved UB over Delaware, RIT, Va Tech, Syracuse, etc…

He loved Bing and Buffalo the best for “fit” for himself. Buffalo has a great engineering dept that appears to be well known in NY as so many engineering grads (and other UB grads) know about the program.

My son was very impressed with the labs he saw, all functioning on Engin.Accpeted Students day and that made it an easy decision for him.

As a sophomore, he volunteered in the Engineering Research Dept in the Fall and now has a paid research position. Great experience for him.

Just found out that tonight is the Engineering Ball at the Marriott. How fun for them.

Like most SUNYs, leaving NY, I don’t think anyone will have a clue how well educated these kids are, but hopefully it won’t matter much after they land the first job and build a resume and experience.

By the way, my son has no regrets in his decision!!!

Please look under RIT’s pages for my question on RIT vs UB!!! I love to hear other peoples advise on why RIT might be worth $70,000 or so than UB. And how doing 3 coops at RIT might make the difference vs 1 co-op at Buffalo. Any stats or feeling will be appreciated!

How difficult is it to find a job with an engineering degree from UB?

[Undergraduate Placement Information - 2009](http://www.eng.buffalo.edu/placement/2010/)

That should help you see. Out of the 68% of the graduating body who were looking for jobs and didn’t want grad school or some other option, 32% of them had job offers my graduation. In past years it was higher, but the economy screwed that up.

And the employers UB attracts to their career fairs is pretty good too. I’ve seen Microsoft, IBM, Intel, General Electric, and such which shows that it is a reputable school. (I’m going for Computer Engineering so obviously I listed the big tech companies)
