Which one better prepares an applicant for medical school (keep in mind that I can get into the UB honors college, but am not sure if I can get into Geneseo's)

Both are excellant schools. I can tell you that Geneseo’s program is very challenging. Students spend many hours studying and studying and studying. My friends who graduated from Geneseo and then attended Med School felt that Geneseo prepared them well.

I think it will come down to which school you feel more comfortable at. I just have a preferance for Geneseo. There is just a great sense of community on that campus and the academics and focus on Undergraduate education is top rate.

I agree with Geneseograd, both are very good choices but very different schools. UB also has a great community feel and they have wonderful pre-health advising, research programs, shadowing/volunteer opportunities, and faculty. There’s so much to do there that it’s difficult to imagine a student could ever outgrow the school.

My daughter is pre-pharm but takes many of the same classes as pre-meds. They are challenging, even without the honors sections, and it takes a significant daily commitment to keep up. She is not in honors housing but in the pre-health LLC and recommends it to avoid having roommates/neighbors who don’t have to study constantly!

Apply to both and visit again after you’re accepted. Something will tip the scales for you.

VISIT!!! It’s the best way to tell.

I think Geneseo has smaller classes, more accessible faculty for undergrads, and a better name…for undergrads, as that is its primary mission and focus.

oldbatesieDoc: US News and World Report named Geneseo one of 80 Schools strongly committed to undergraduate teaching in its 2010 rankings

The reality is that med schools care about GPA, MCAT. Research & outside involvement in the medical field is also strongly considered.
You will mostly hear to go to the school where you feel you will get the highest GPA opportunity for research and then study like crazy for the MCAT.
