My portal shows a denied decision under my second choice faculty, but my first still shows the ‘your application is ready for review message’
The UBC website says that they only evaluate you for your second choice if you didn’t get into your first, but the first choice never updated.

Im assuming the fact that my second choice says I was rejected means that I didn’t get into either. Can anyone confirm this?

@22cbwill hi! Congrats on your acceptance! I am also a fellow applicant of UBC, do you mind telling me when you applied?

@Rsujung thanks! I sent in my application on about 13 January and then I had my school mail a transcript which was received on 14 February, but I also uploaded one. Two or three days ago my application status changed and it said they were evaluating my application, and I got the acceptance today.

@22cbwill thanks so much for the detailed reply! I also got the status changed that they are evaluating my application about three days ago, I hope to hear from them soon  congrats again!!

@Rsujung @22cbwill is there a status that comes after ‘your file is ready for evaluation’?

@soccerslueth for me after my documents were in it just changed from that to “Congratulations, You have been admitted!” with some information after about official documents. It was for my first choice, and my second choice changed to “As you were admitted to another choice of program, an evaluation of this choice was not conducted.”

@22cbwill @soccerslueth mine reads: Your application for admission is currently being reviewed along with many other competitive applications that we have received this year. We expect an update on the status of your application to be available no later than March 15th. There is no further action required at this time. Thank you for your patience, and we look forward to staying in touch over the next several weeks.

It changed after the “your file is ready for an evaluation” status.

Has anyone accepted received the packet in the mail? D was accepted on portal maybe 10 days ago or so, but still waiting on packet. I think the portal mentioned that financial/scholarship info is in there…should prob check the portal again to see if anything else is update there, sometimes that info lags.

@CADREAMIN I haven’t received a packet in the mail yet but I did receive an email about the OIS scholarship a few days ago. Hopefully the packet comes soon though

Thanks @22cbwill good to hear you are also waiting on packet. D got the OIS letter on Feb 24th as well (but ya know, I had forgot about that and found it when I searched email) (duh), I am sure the packet will eventually show up. I think that is just a one time thing, (hers was 12,000CAD) versus all four years, is that how you understand it? Wasn’t that clear on the letter, but it seems that way…I guess I should have her check her portal again too.

@CADREAMIN yes the OIS is just a one time thing, I haven’t gotten the letter yet but I know that if you look it up on UBC’s websites in the scholarship information it says that it’s only a one-time thing. There is another scholarship for international students that is all four years, but I’ve read that it’s way more selective that the OIS

Ya our official OIS thing was an attachment to an email, so the packet will likely be anti-climactic at this point. Glad you said something, I mentioned it to my D and she didn’t remember seeing it either! So I had to re-forward it to her. But her college email is flooded with junk, so it just got buried under a bunch of colleges still suggesting she apply! lol. she done. @22cbwill - we are in California, how about you? Are you seriously considering UBC? She also got into UToronto and is waiting on McGill. I was stunned at the price of UoT. I though it was more affordable than it is. Seems their international tuition has bumped up consistently and significantly from a few years ago when she started considering it.

@22cbwill duh again, post edit, forgot to convert CAD to USD on my spreadsheet. ha I had UoT at almost 70K USD a year without scholarships figured in. It’s actually on par with UBC, that makes way more sense.
