@de11122 Because you haven’t accepted your offer yet, I would say that you may be able to change it.
Sometimes, it takes awhile for financial aid to arrive. I would advise you to be patient.

How long would it take for my application status to be updated once you get the “your file is ready for evaluation” message? I’m applying to BSc program at both campuses (Vancouver first choice). I’m from Asia and followed the british pattern so I only got my final results in late Feb. Just got the “your file is ready for evaluation” message either yesterday or today.
Whoop nevermind. Checked the portal again today and it’s been updated. Wow, I’m surprised. It only took a day. I was expecting to have to wait until mid-May.
Since I didn’t get my first choice, I’m probably not going to attend UBC, unless they offer me a scholarship. Waiting for the mail package.
Faculty at UBC: Bsc, Okanagan
New SAT: 1500/1600
I took A Levels (I’m from singapore): BBB/C + A in GP. I had decent grades throughout high school - nothing fantastic though.
No major awards
ECs: No major leadership positions but I was very involved in clubs and other school activities.
@ellyh0 Your SAT is amazing! Congratulations!
However, because UBC doesn’t require SAT’s for British curriculum students, I don’t think they will consider it that much. They might even overlook it.
What did your first choice say? I may be able to shed light on it.
I don’t know how the British grades work. I know USA and Canada have a lot of grade inflation, but I don’t know how inflated UK grades are.
@DartMonkey93 thank you! I agree with you that UBC probably didn’t consider my SAT score. I didn’t send an official score report anyway.
My first choice says “Unfortunately, we are unable to offer you admission to UBC. We wish we could admit all qualified applicants, but UBC is a competitive university that receives more applications than can be accommodated. UBC considers many factors when evaluating each application - on its own and against the other applications UBC receives. As a result, this decision may say more about the competitiveness of this year applications than of individual academic qualifications. Find out more about how admissions decisions are made at you.ubc.ca/admissions/how-to- apply/admissions-decisions/#refused.”
I don’t mind UBCO but the location loses out in terms of accessibility and city life. The proximity to the Rockies is tempting though I must admit.
I try not to think about grade inflation because the Singapore A Levels is slightly diffferent from the UK one and sometimes we’re lumped together sometimes we’re not so it’s super confusing.
CONGRATS btw to everyone who got in and all the best for those still waiting!
@ellyh0 Just curious, but what does your second choice say? I just want to know what it will tell me if I get accepted. The bureaucracy is really slow right now because it seems that UBC is very busy at this time.
UBCO is about 4-5 hours by drive from Vancouver, and is in a cold location. Nevertheless, the teaching is still good.
Best of luck! I hope you have been accepted to other universities.
@DartMonkey93 My second choice says “Congratulations, You have been admitted! An admission package including an official offer letter is on its way. Please see this package for the full details of your offer and next steps.”
Also if you enter the student services center main page and your left menu has changed to show ‘course schedule’ instead of ‘application status’, it likely means you’ve gotten an offer.
I’m likely going to Seattle so I’ll still be pretty close to BC haha.
All the best for your UBC app and any other applications you may have
@ellyh0 My first choice is BSc UBCV and my second choice is BA UBCV. I want to change it to BA for both, UBCV for first choice and UBCO for second.
I just got my ELAS waiver accepted today.
I got the email stating the OIS scholarship of 10,000 CAD today. Now UBC is a much more affordable option. <3
Has anyone heard back for the ILOT scholarship?
Also, I’m stuck between UBC and the University of Warwick for a major in economics, and I’d love some opinions on it.
And does the econ department of University of Minnesota Twin Cities come close to these two?
@bumbleebutt You’ll probably get people biased towards UBC on here.
Regardless, please state what makes you like/dislike each of the options. That way, you can make an informed decision, and we could emphasize which are true/untrue/exaggerated.
