UBC Econ: Interesting People & Teacher Accessibility?

Hi!

I’ve just finished my first year in Sauder, and I have a question for UBC Economics, or all Arts, students.

By the stunning lack of creative and genuine minds at Sauder, I’m prompted to transfer into Economics. But I want to make sure I don’t go into a faculty where I won’t find what I seek.

So, how would you rate:

 1. Teacher Accessibility – teachers who are passionate about developing the minds of students, throwing ideas around, and chatting about the course
 2. The number of interesting people – I want to surround myself with people who are intelligent and outgoing, creative and practical; are they there? Or are they just mathematicians?

I guess it is hard to qualify whether the atmosphere in Economics is more intellectually stimulating or not; there will be passionate and enthusiastic students and teachers everywhere you go.

Why do you think that Sauder lacks substance?

Update: I’m in Sauder for the time being. Not enough info on Economics. Taking a few econ courses next year. Will let you all know.
