UBC or Waterloo? (life sciences)

Hellooo!

I’m an IB student interested in life sciences and I want to pursue research. I haven’t really decided on a specialisation. (Though I think I should add that I’m not aiming to become a doctor (some people tend to assume that :P) )

I have gotten a BSc offer from University of British Columbia.
I have also gotten offers from University of Waterloo for Honours Science as well as Life Sciences co-op.
(I haven’t really decided if I want to pursue co-op or not.)

I was wondering if anyone can give me some insights into these universities, especially in terms of the undergraduate research and hands-on opportunities.

Meanwhile, I was also wondering if a co-op programme will help me as a budding research scientist.

I don’t mind some insights into student life, distance and other pros and cons too, but right now, I’m primarily trying to decide which university is more suited for what I want to do further.

Thanks!

Waterloo is very very strong for mathematical sciences - computer science and engineering. It is quite weak for life science however. The co op would help get jobs in industry, but not academic research. I would go to UBC. UBC’s life science research is much much stronger.
