UBC undergraduate freshman applicant (American)

Hey guys I just wanted to know from any UBC alumni (or if you have the knowledge regardless) what my chances are getting accepted.

So I have a 3.0 gpa and 1760 sat (also planning to take act later).
But heres the the thing, I'm not ure if they'll take into account my circumstances. During my 9th and 10th grade years I wa attending an international school in South Africa and while living in South Africa did wonders in helping me grow with experiences few have had at this age (in the US anyways), it also caused my academic prowess to deteriorate. The school was terrible, it didn't offer APs or honors, plus they had new admin every year. This was also around the time my mother developed cancer. During those two years my gpa rounded to about 2.5. However since I've moved back to the US I've improved incredibly, I attend one of California's top competitive schools and I'm even taking AP and honors classes. From 11th and 12th (12th still in progress) I average around a 3.4 or give or take. But my South Africa still drags that down. Given all this how do you guys think I fair? Also I heard that Canadian Unis focus more on 11th and 12th? Thank You for your thoughts!
