UBC has great weather, good rep, etc. but McGill has excellent rep, terrible weather, great city... Which is better for grad school? Is Montreal better than Vancouver despite the cold (I HATE cold)?? Which is more diverse?

I think both schools are pretty diverse and are great in their own way.

I'm at UBC right now and have applied for a transfer to McGill, but I am in no way disappointed with UBC. My freshman year at UBC has been a lot of fun and I've enjoyed it a lot, and I would definitely recommend it to others. I won't lie: Vancouver has excellent weather during the spring and summer months, like now, but the winters can be depressing with constant rain and cloudy days. However, Montreal will be freezing cold during the winters too. Both UBC and McGill have a significant (10%+) international population, however, McGill's international student body comprises of more Americans than anything else, while UBC's international student body is genuinely quite international.

It's a hard one, so I think both are great choices. If you're looking primarily at prestige and reputation, or academics, then McGill probably beats UBC in several respects. In terms of social life and the like, you can't go wrong either way, because Vancouver and Montreal will offer you different experiences.

When it comes to grad school, it's not really appropriate to say "which is better" overall. What subject(s) are you considering?

/McGill's the most diverse, no matter how you measure it...

If UBC was so great why are you tranferring to McGill?
BTW, I'm planning on majoring in Poli Sci/Economics, which is better on those depts?

UBC's economics department is amazing. It is even ranked better than Cambridge and Oxford (just the economics department) and that's why they are super picky about who they let in. Hope this helps

I hope to transfer to McGill because I want another experience. I've been in Vancouver for two years now (for my senior year of high school and my freshman year of college), and I love the place, but I'm up for something different again. Don't get me wrong, UBC is not a bad school, and I mean that. McGill's reputation is better internationally, but I think both are great schools in their own right.

I've heard that UBC's economics department is one of the best in Canada, but I didn't know about it ranking higher than Cambridge and Oxford.

UBC "one of the best" in economics? It's arguably THE top econ department in Canada, although Toronto could make a decent case for that title as well. Both of them are world class departments, with the edge going to UBC. (imo) McGill's economics department, on the other hand, is average at best.

What about Political Science?

I believe McGill has an excellent political science department.

Based on the things I've heard so far, I'm inclining more towards McGill, but UBC seems to be a great school and they're offering me much more financial aid. And also, why isn't UBC as recgnized as McGill and U of T? It doesn't even have its own forum on this website...

It doesn't even have its own forum on this website

I wonder about that too XD

I'll third that. UBC deserves a forum here, methinks.
