I am an international student studying in California State University, Los Angeles and want to transfer out. Major: Computer Science
Factors to consider:
- quality of education (of course)
- overall life for an eighteen year old teenager
Also, I know that UCLA is more expensive than UBC and settlement opportunities are easier in Canada.
Insights/opinions please?
Academically I don’t think that I see a big difference, with both being very good for CS. Americans would probably rank UCLA higher, but I am not sure that I would agree or care much about the difference.
Winters will be quite rainy in Vancouver, but most of the time not quite cold enough to snow – not necessarily a win. Housing is insanely expensive in Vancouver – you will want to have on campus housing assured and don’t give it up unless you know for sure that you have something affordable available off campus.
How big is the difference in price? How important to you and your family is the difference in price?
UCLA is a bit more expensive than UBC but then Canada offers better settlement opportunities in terms of Permenant Residency so that’s why I’m having a hard time deciding. Also, UCLA parties are a lot more fun and Vancouver is kind of dead when it comes to parties and teen life. Do you know anyone from UBC that I connect with and ask questions? What are other factors you would consider?
