About my finances, that’s a bit of a tricky situation. My father hates me so he’s refusing to loan me any money or co-sign for loans. I don’t qualify for any financial aid (according to the FAFSA) because my father makes >$120k USD a year and has a lot of assets. I have $2k saved up (and will be tutoring when senior year starts) but obviously it’s not that much. I know I have a terrible plan (or lack of one), but to be honest i don’t really know what other choice i have.
Also in comparison to community colleges or CSUs, the cost of attendence at those would be more ($20-25k USD) since I’m not allowed to live in my parent’s house after i’m 18.
Unfortunately, your financial aid in both Canada and the US will depend on your parents’ income, even if they won’t cooperate. However, there are bursaries available at Canadian universities, which can get around that. Cost of attendance will be around $20K CAD, possibly less at McGill, so it is doable at Canadian universities. I am most familiar with OSAP (Ontario’s financial aid system), but it is changing for this coming year, so I’m not sure what you would qualify for. I recommend contacting the financial aid departments of the universities you are looking at.
Another option would be to work for a few years and save up some money and then apply as a mature student. Your parents’ incomes won’t be a factor then.
Is the GPA weighted or unweighted? If weighed, what is the unweighted GPA and/or how is it calculated?
If you have an unweighted 4.0, meaning all your grades are A’s, then with 1420 SAT you are very likely in at all three schools. Freshman year of high school doesn’t count, but if you only have A’s for all three years then this won’t matter.
Also, while these three schools are excellent, they are among the most expensive in Canada for international students. You can find their prices on-line, and if you would like to pay less for a less well known but still very good university, there are other very good choices also which you can ask us about.
