Uber v. Rental car Parents weekend

Coming to campus for parents weekend in November. Based on how limited parking is on or near campus, wondering if we should forgo renting a car and just rely on Uber to get around? Or is parking not going to be a problem?

We are renting a car. You can usually find a parking spot in one of the garages and just plan on walking. Driving around campus is usually worse than getting a parking space. I wouldn’t want to deal with calling Uber every time you wanted to go somewhere.

Last year we ubered everywhere parents’ weekend. It was great. Door-to-door service, and we never waited more than 4 minutes for the uber to arrive. There were so many ubers in Ann Arbor that weekend. Great not to have to think about parking.

We typically take Amtrak into town on game weekends. Plenty of taxi services/Uber. You can also ride the UMich buses for free, and get a cheap day pass to The Ride. Parking is definitely an issue on parent’s weekend. I think you’d be better off with taxis/Uber.

Parking is free at the municipal lots on Sunday and many campus structures after 5pm Friday - Sunday. Metered street parking runs 8-6 daily except Sunday (free). A car is handy if you are staying at one of the hotels on the edge of town. If your student is on campus and you are staying with him/her, you will not need a car. You can take the ‘airride’ from Detroit Metro.
