UC 1 YEAR TRANSFERS FALL 2020

Hey everyone! I am applying to the UCs with only 1 year of CC done. I know a lot of people discourage people like me from applying, but I know that there are many others in my situation who are trying to transfer in 1 year. I though we would start a thread and see where we all end up, so that we can encourage others to do it in the future! Best of luck to everyone, I truly am rooting for you all!!!

Here are my stats…

major: environmental science/ cell biology depending on campus choice
Units: 23.8 from APs, 7 taken while in high school, 9 in Summer '19, 19 in Fall '19, and currently in 24 Spring '20.
GPA: 4.0
Part of honors program, will have all major prerequisites done by the Spring.
extracurriculars: started a tutoring company for economically disadvantaged kids taking the SAT, religious school teacher, volunteer at hospital, work as a scribe, in the process of collecting data for 2 research papers. others but will take too long to list lol.
Essays: ehhh maybe like 8/10, solid overall
Cons: Only applying with 1 year at CCC so some of my pre-req work is to be completed in my current semester. For most of my majors, this is okay because they want it down prior to the Fall semester of enrollment, but we will see how it goes!

Applied to:UCLA, UCB, UCD, UCSD, Stanford, Hopkins, Pomona, Northwestern. Got the regents email from UCD in February, but haven’t heard from anywhere else yet.

Good luck again to everyone! Hope you all make it where you want to go!!!

Thanks for starting this. There are always people interest in the subject.

Hi! I’m a one year transfer too!
major : math:data theory (ucla), math(uci)
i was too lazy to apply to other private schools LOL

units:
summer: 15 sem
fall: 18 sem (1 W)
spring: 17 sem (1 W), 4 qtr
8 sem units from AP

gpa: 3.84 ( 1 B )
major gpa: 4.0
APs: Calculus AB (5), Chemistry (4)
will have all major pre reqs completed by end of spring for ucla at least (2/6 left in spring)

ECs: worked 2 jobs, basketball coach and enthusiast, 3rd place state arduino engineering competition, math tutor, and i have some volunteering in but these are my main ones

essays: idk, sorta reused 2 from hs but theyre solid

cons: Only applying with 1 year at CCC so some of my pre-req work is to be completed in my current semester (lin alg/ multivariable calc), withdrew from my honors lin alg class at cc last minute and instead taking it at uci spring quarter, dont really know if that matters

Oh wow, this is cool! I guess I’ll post my stats xD
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Units: 42.67 from AP’s(most won’t transfer though), 16 from HS, 4 in summer, 20 each for fall and spring
GPA: 3.875
Essays: cringey(so somewhat decent)

hello! i’m also looking to transfer from a community college to a UC after only a year. I recently heard back from UCSC saying I had been admitted as a junior transfer so I’m taking it as a confirmation that I will be able to transfer this year! Good luck to everyone applying to transfer from cc to a UC after one year! They said it wasn’t possible but look at us :’)

Stats
Major: Math
GPA: As of fall: 3.82
AP’s: a ton, helped me transfer in one year
Essays: cringey, but alright
Ec’s: barely any

Idk if anyone can help me with this, but I’m taking linear algebra and diff equations in the spring quarter, and I was wondering whether taking major prep class in the last quarter is looked at negatively.? Thanks.

It’s nice to see other prospective one year transfers!

Stats
Major: Japanese
GPA: 4.0
APs: a lot, enough to not have to take many units to reach the minimum lol
Essays: I thought they were a lot better than the ones I wrote in high school
ECs: a lot related to my major and some outside of my major too

good luck to everyone!!

Hi guys! I’m a 1 year transfer student as well. I had about 33 units from AP’s, so I figured I might as well apply to universities this year.
Fall 2019 GPA: 4.0
TAG: Did not meet requirements for it in the Fall 2019
IGETC: completed by the end of Spring Semester
Essays: eh, I don’t want to read them again and cringe, but they do the job I hope.
Pre-reqs: Completed
Major: first choice Political Science, second choice History
Ecs: Not much but I work as a full time manager at Nike
Schools applied to: UCSB, UCLA
I figured that these schools are my top, so if I don’t get in this year, I can TAG tot UCSB next year.

I also heard from someone else on here that UC’s don’t care about how long you’ve been in a CC, they might only care if you dropped out of a 4 year previously. So I guess being in a CC for only 1 year instead of 2 doesn’t hurt your chances! Good luck everyone:)

Ideally you took a couple of summer courses as they like to see about 7 courses. That’s not a set number, but they like seeing as broad a group as you can get by the end of fall.

I don’t think it matters how long you’ve been at a CC they just want to see that you’ve completed the requirements to transfer like everyone else

Hey!

I am a one-year transfer also. How many semester/quarter credits do you guys all have?

@davidls hey! i have 35 semester units completed and am currently in 24. I also have some AP credit that should add up to help me transfer.

@fearthfihr I have taken 39 Semester Units and am currently in 22. I also have about 30 Semester Units of AP credit. Do you think having more than 60 Semester Units adds brownie points or smthn?

@davidls no I don’t think it matters. As long as you’re in the 60-80 unit range then you’re fine because basically the school only takes 60 max units and the rest get thrown out. We both have a lot of units in progress, so I guess we will have to see what schools think of that when they see our apps.

Major: EECS or CSE
GPA: 3.92 (Hopefully 3.95 at end of semester)
UNITS: APs: 24, Summer: 9, Fall: 20, Spring: 28
Applied: All UCs except UCR/UCM

any updates you guys? I got into Davis, but rejected from Cal. I will appeal and see what happens/

Just got accepted Irvine! Will most likely go there

Just committed to UC Berkeley! Good luck with all your admissions y’all~it is indeed possible, even for engineering

Updating for future one year transfers:
Applied: UCLA, UCSB
Accepted: UCLA, UCSB

Committed to UCLA. I had 60 units exactly, and did not take any summer courses. So to any future one year transfers, just know that it is possible!
