UC 1-YEAR TRANSFERS

I recently discovered there were a lot of other people in the same situation as me, transferring after one year in college. I’m not sure if there are a lot more this year than normal, but I think we should start a Facebook group/chat together. If one already exists, excuse me and please let me know the name, otherwise forming our own would be a good idea as it might help for housing or at least meeting others who are taking an insane course load.

This sounds like a good idea and I’m glad you started this thread. ?

The only thing is if relevant parties decide to reply

What if we’re not going to the same schools?

One year transfers have a lot of similar requirements at every UC and I assume most are applying to multiple campuses, so this thread could be valuable.

WOw a designated thread!

Given what I went through last year with admissions, I am pleasantly surprised by this year’s results.

Did y’all get an additional info request email from the UCs few months ago?

I got one mid-February asking when my Winter 2019 grades will be finalized. I replied automatically then submitted my grades (A’s) as soon as I got them.

I’ve talked to another one-year who did not get the email and we speculated that it might be because they wanted to see more coursework before deciding since I only had 6 completed courses by Fall and took two major-related courses that Winter. Another speculation is that I’m on a semester system and my winter intercession ended mid February, so they just wanted to know my grades.
I’m not sure which campus requested it since I applied to two.

I didn’t think much of this when it happened but now that UCLA decisions are approaching, I’m hoping this is a reassuring thing.

Hahah ya I’m the person who didn’t get the winter grades email and I’m really stressing over it. I’m just really hoping it was because I’m on the quarter system so my winter grades were finalized in the first week of April where decisions are essentially finalized by then so there wasn’t really any point of them asking anymore. I sent in my grades to the UC application center through email anyways. Jedenic had 6 classes done by fall and I had 7 but idk if the 1 class difference is significant enough. I’m just hoping this doesn’t mean I’m pretty much rejected.

I had 10 classes done by Fall (though 2 were P.E. so really 8) and I didn’t get the email. If you have a good GPA and some relevant courses done in the Fall, you should be fine.

Curious - are any of you guys STEM majors, because trying to finish all the programming courses necessary is quite the hell.

I forgot to mention I also had 1 pre-req left for winter quarter so I was genuinely expecting them to ask for that grade. I have a 3.96 (1 had A-) so not a 4.0 but not a horrible GPA either. But ya theres nothing I can do anymore but just wait till Wed.

Are you on semester or quarter? Bc considering that there are only 3 Ca CCC’s that are on quarter they would know that those 3 schools aren’t gonna get grades in until April.

Btw, additional requested information is usually if they are borderline on an applicant, which may be a good or bad thing. It hurts your chances if the updates aren’t positive but will otherwise probably push you over the edge.

npound and I are psych majors. There’s a huge debate for whether psych is STEM, but if we are talking major pre-reqs, I would say not STEM then (at least for LA).

Got into UCLA today!
For lurking future one-years, have confidence in yourself. As long as you finish the 60 required units and pre-reqs, you are literally just as legitimate of an applicant as everyone else who stayed 2+ years. The grind is definitely worth it; do not be afraid to seek help from counselors or professors.
Enjoy your time at CC, plan well, and give everything your best shot!

It appears that all of you 1 year transfers are entering as a junior status at your respective UC. You accomplished this by college credits for AP classes passed and additional college credits taken during a quarter or semester or summer. Any of you transferring as a sophomore, say with only 30 semester or 45 quarter units completed before enrolling at the UC? thanks.

@UCBUSCalum You can only transfer in as a junior. I believe certain majors used to accept sophomore transfers but as of now, all UC’s only accept junior level.
