UC A-G Visual/Performing Arts Requirement (CONFUSED PLEASE HELP)

Hello all,

So, I’m going into my junior year at a public Massachusetts high school, and I’m really hoping to get into UCLA and UCB next year. I came upon their visual arts requirement though, and I just want to ask if a year long course in family and consumer science satisfactory for this? This is the class I took to fulfill my school’s arts requirement but I don’t know if it qualifies as a visual arts class. (it was two terms of cooking and two terms of sewing).

Please HELP me!

Sorry mean VPA and these classes listed are for my son’s HS in California. You can also do 1 semester at a CC which could count as a year long class for the UC requirement. If unsure, you can contact UC admissions to verify which classes would meet their criteria.

Okay, thank you so much gumbymom! I’m a bit nervous because I haven’t realized I would need to complete a class like this in school (I participate in my school musical and attend a performing arts school separate from my high school, but I’ve never taken arts/music classes in school), and my only option would be to try and shove one in my senior year schedule. However, my options would be limited, and I would have to take a grade level course (which would bring down my weighted gpa). Ugh, I hope I can use my family and consumer science class, but it’s not looking good…

Can you afford the UCs as an OOS student? Before you sign up for a course in visual and performing arts, you need to know if your parents are willing to pay more than $200,000 for your education.

There is no financial aid for out of state students.

At least $55k per year.

VPA is usually performing music or defined Art classes; or AP Art History. Sewing is offered in California public schools under Home Economics and is listed as an elective, by instate students, on UC applications.
