Is it possible to do a UC Academic Renewal? More specifically UCSB?
I did horrible my first two years of UCSB and have a GPA of 2.22. Right after my first two years, I decided to transfer out to PCC in hopes of transferring to UCLA or UCI. I realize that there’s a transfer GPA that takes the cumulative of the two GPA’s from UCSB and PCC.
Currently I have a 3.63 at PCC but with the UC transfer admission planner, it’s calculated that I have a transfer GPA of 2.67.
I did horrible at UCSB and I’m improving. I can’t be in UCSB’s environment anymore, there’s just no way. I wrote on my personal statements about my mental health issues and struggles at UCSB, how I overcame them and how I’m striving to do better. It just makes me wonder if I will always have my poor performance at UCSB haunt me on my journey to transfer out…
Another option is to just take a bunch of easy A classes at PCC to boost your GPA, try to attain straight A’s and get your GPA above a 3.0, and possibly join the honors program at PCC to get TAP certified for UCLA.
What’s your major?
I mean yeah, I’m indirectly trying to do that but it takes a lot of classes to bring up 2 years of classes at UCSB. I’m trying to transfer out in a year.
UCSB GPA: 2.22
PCC GPA: 3.63
Calculating everything together using the UC transfer admission planner, I so far have a UC gpa of 2.67. Which has gone up from 2.22 by taking classes at PCC. I got 4 A’s and 2 B’s at PCC so far, which brought up the UC gpa.
Also, since I’m a one-year transfer, I couldn’t even take honors to get TAP certified. I tried, but they said I need to complete 12 units at PCC first before I can enroll in honors. I started PCC in Summer 2017. Summer is limited to 8 units and I took 7, thus I couldn’t even do it in the Fall. The only way was to start in the Spring, but even then, it’s too late… You have to complete 15 units of honors courses to get certified.
What do you mean the UC GPA was brought up by classes at a CCC? That cannot happen. The only way to alter a UC GPA are other courses, whether new or repeated, at a UC or UC Extension. UC courses can only be repeated for credit at a UC.
You do have your health issues, which can ideally offset it. They may ask for medical verification, so try to secure that. Considering the low GPA is from a UC they are going to look extra hard at that, so make sure you can bolster your situation back then as much as possible.
Yes, you would be precluded from TAP but that’s just priority, not a guarantee. People get in without it so don’t sweat that.
If you could wait another year (not the end of the world), I might suggest taking a UC extension course or two (make sure the courses are transferable) and work on getting the UC GPA up. That will show you have the chops. And then your medical issue setback will be stronger.
You need to be talking to an advisor who knows how to handle this. If you repeated UC courses at a CCC my understanding is you will not get credit for them, which will lower your CCC units and possibly the CCC GPA.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you may not be eligible to transfer to a UC. There is a limit on how many units you can have and still apply to a UC. The limit varies by campus but the bottom line is the units from classes you did not fail at a UC (or maybe its earned a C or better, you need to check with a counselor) are added to the units you earn at a CC to figure out how many units you have. If you have too many you are not eligible

After my Spring 2018 quarter, I’ll have completed 108 quarter units. Isn’t that still eligible for transfer? Just want to make sure with you. I’ll also check myself. Thanks for your response btw!
