-anything

i was in the UCSD thread for last year and their decisions came out last year on March 19th, even for people with NO TAG. So

UCSD - March 19th

UCI was March 9th.

UCB was April 29th (i think last friday in April)

UCLA was before that if i can’t get back in time to edit.

[i know the dates will be different but it will only probably +/-1]

Not to rain on anyone’s parade, but a lot of these UCs do rolling acceptances. So they release their decisions in groups and often do multiple batches between mid-March and late-April. So checking the old forums to see when a certain university released “some” of their decisions last year doesn’t necessarily mean yours is coming out at or near that day this year.

I know UCSD had something like 3 or 4 batches last year, some people were informed really early in March and some people were informed about nearly the last week in April. The batches also tend to be larger and larger as they time goes by. So there are seemingly more people that get informed in the later batches than right at the beginning in the first batch. Also, when they inform you is seemingly completely random, it has nothing to do with when you submitted your application or the TAU or whether you’ve been rejected or accepted. So if you’re expecting to be in the first batch because you submitted your UC app on Nov 1st and your TAU right on Jan 1st it doesn’t necessarily work that way. On the second point, if you find yourself waiting into late April when a lot of people from early batches have already posted that they’ve been accepted, that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve been rejected. People tend to get panicky and rationalize the process assuming they’ve been rejected if they see other people getting admitted before them. I’m sure around mid to late April there will be a plethora of the “woe is me posts I haven’t been accepted yet so I must’ve have been rejected” Please don’t let yourself fall into this category, be patient and make NO assumptions. One note though, most of the UCs send out the rejections late on or near the last week in April.

There is a slight bit of certainty for those that have TAG usually the TAG decisions come out earlier. For UCSD I was told by an admissions officer that TAG decisions will come out between mid March and early April, in the first or second batches.

maybe…just MAYBE, we are just wanting to breathe when they just BEGIN sending out acceptances so we know activity is going on rather just knowing NOTHING has even began yet…

raises hand

@UCkittychen
We do know there’s activity going on though, the review process is taking place as we speak and every day more and more evaluations are being made by the admissions officers at the UCs. Idk, I just have never been one to obsess over these random dates as there’s no point in worrying about what’s out of our control. To me, my relief came when I sent in the TAU, my fall grades were updated and that’s the end of it. That was the extent to which I could affect the admissions process. Now it’s just time to focus hard on this last semester and the decision will come whenever it does.

I think for the people that obsess over the arbitrary dates, there really won’t be any relief when decisions start rolling out, just more anxiety if they’re not in the first batch. For many people it’s going to be even harder when mid-March comes around and they realize there are people posting on here that have already been admitted and their decision is still pending. That’s when real doubt and obsession start to set in. When March comes around, people will dwell over every second thinking that at any moment their decision could be released and will start to doubt themselves the longer they wait. There are people on here that will check their admissions accounts 20-30 times a day. I think now is actually the easy part because there isn’t as much uncertainty and everyone’s still in the same standing. No one’s been admitted and no one’s comparing themselves to those that have. You can obsess over these exact dates in March when decisions first started to come out last year only to realize you have two more months of waiting before you get an answer, possibly as late as mid-May.

I think there’s something to be said about being mature enough to be patient. For all the effort that’s spent obsessing over these things, people could be dedicating their effort into their classes this semester and preparing themselves academically for the big jump ahead of us. IMO, fate is already in motion now’s the time to relax, step back, and let it take its course. If anxiety levels are high now, in March/April there will be those people that teeter on the border of sanity with every passing second lol. Just my two cents.

Berkeley: Decisions will be available the evening of April 27, 2012

UCLA: Decisions will be available beginning in late April 2012.

Although last year UCLA decisions came out before Cal.

No effort to debate but this decision is extremely important to me, every minute of every day I wonder. It won’t stop, in not the only one, decisions will change my life forever.

Good post dilapidatedmind, and very true.

^ I think it’s fair to say to stop stressing about if for UCs that really do rolling admission, but clearly some of them (Cal) do post a single date when admissions will be announced. So I think it’s fair to compile a list of which UCs do that and which ones don’t. It certainly calms my nerves.

@UCkittychen
I guess my point is that while the decision is extremely important in all of our lives, it’s important to not let it consume your life. Yes, it’s very important and where we attend will likely have a large effect on our futures, but you shouldn’t let it distract you from the present. You’ve worked hard to get to this point and right now there’s nothing else you can do to change the inevitable decision. Spending hours perusing this site or checking your admissions page isn’t going to change whether or not you get a “Congratulations, for being admitted into UC …” or a “We appreciate your interest, but…” letter. I just think there’s still a lot for people to take away in these last few months before the big transition to a UC and often times people lose out on that by getting caught up in the admissions process. Even worse is when people let their focus slip off their academics and risk their admission or being prepared for the transition post-decision. I just think once you kind of let go and accept that it’s out of your hands it’s a bit less stressful and you can enjoy and take full advantage of these next few months.

Anyway good luck to you and everyone else, I just hope everyone has the time to appreciate and take away something from our collective experience.

I think it would be more prudent to just check your school admittance portals once a week and just stop worrying about it.

It doesn’t make sense to clog up this website with “omg I didn’t get in today” messages.

I will be more worried about my classes this semester then the WHEN of my application decision.

^^ yeah. On that ucsd acceptance thread from last year, I was trying to go through it to see how many history majors were rejected. But the majority of posts on there are complaints of not getting any news. and theres like 150 pages!

You really can’t base it on past years numbers anyway. The dynamics are completely different. Economy is diff, tag gpa’s are diff, and the best news is there are LESS applicants this year than last. That means higher acceptance numbers for this cycle.

Either way, I can’t wait either, but I’m more worried about my 16 credit course load. I will probably get an email anyway when a decision is posted.

yeah that’s true. I like seeing peoples stats though and if they’re similar to mine and got accepted it makes me happy(: I was so anxious with the tag decisions that I checked it like every hour, but the one day I left my phone at home decisions were posted and I didn’t find out until 7 hours later. That really sucked.

@dil, your reasoning is obviously fair and totally legit, and in many ways true. but its just too hard for me to not let it consume me. perhaps i need to see a psych’ but, seriously its a major motivator for my daily routine. its very, very sacred and in a way spiritual and religious.

just trying to hold it together in the meantime…

UCLA came out around 4/25 last year, i think for everyone. It wasn’t in batches

last year ucb was april 29, decisions came out around 5:30pm (PST). not sure if that’ll hold true this year especially since they moved up the date by 2 days. ucla came out a few days before then and it was for everyone (not in batches).

Hey I know this may be off topic but I was wondering if UC’s sent out acceptance letters in December to freshman applicants. I have a friend who claims to have already gotten accepted to UC San Diego and other UC’s.

Freshman are on a different acceptance time frame. If you want to check, look up the schools transfer page.

I seriously doubt that’s true.
