From what I have read so far,
it looks like the UCs send acceptance letters first
to those with higher scores, impressive ec, etc,
and to those who receive scholarships.
Is this pattern correct?
I have applied to many UCs and haven't receive anything yet.
Should I worry?

That is 99% correct. I read some international students have received acceptance from UCI.

Don't worry. The top UCs (Cal and UCLA) send out official notifications last. The others send out letters inviting top applicants to receptions, to compete for scholarships, etc., but they admit plenty of other kids aside from those! There are some kids who are likely to get into all the UCs; the midrange UCs know this and what you're seeing now are efforts by these schools to encourage the strongest kids to at least take a look at the midrange schools. However there are lots of kids that will get into a UCSB or UCI but not Cal/UCLA. These kids aren't getting early tips, but they will get into a UC.

I know its hard to sit without worrying, but worry isn't going to change anything. If they're going to accept you then you put yourself thru the wringer for nothing, if they didn't then the worry isn't going to change things.

I assume/hope that anybody applying to very competitive schools has a safety as well, a school they gave a lot of time to choosing and not just an afterthought.

Not always. My son got his acceptances from UCLA and Berkeley first, and from UCSB, UCSD and UCI a couple of weeks later.

ucla band mom, when did your son get his acceptance from ucla and cal? My son is still waiting. He did recv invitation to appy for the regents and regents/chancellors scholarships. does this mean he's accepted?

thanks

guitar, that usually means he is in the top 1.5% and already accepted.
