Okay, so I clutched big time and submitted my UC application 5 minutes before the deadline (yeah I know, pretty bad of me to do so), but after reviewing my application I noticed a formatting error in my additional comments section. Here's a portion of my additional comments section :(. http://*******/18Ry1bi

All of a sudden, it replaced my apostrophes and quotation marks into "a??". I initially wrote my additional comments section in microsoft word and then copied and pasted it into the application. I swear that when I did paste it into the additional comments sections, the quotations and apostrophes were still there because I proof read it before submitting.

I'm really scared and nervous that this stupid little formatting error is going to hurt my chances of getting in :(. Is this something I should worry about?

EDIT: Okay it seems like I can't post a picture of it, but I'll show you guys an example of the formatting isue.

Additional Comments Example (before submitting and proofreading it):

Jack asked, "How y'all doing?"

How it looked like after submitting it and reviewing my application:

Jack asked, a??How ya??all doing?a??

Happened to me too, but I double checked before submitting mine(Gave me a chance to manually edit the ?? on my personal statements). From what I heard it is a glitch in the system? ohh idk if you should worry or if the errors will be gone. tsk tsk

yeah I noticed it happened with my personal statements and luckily I was able to catch those errors, but wasn’t so fortunate of catching it with my additional comments section :(. I hope it doesn’t hurt my chances though, I mean it IS just the additional comments which is optional. I’m just worried that if they do see the a??s all over my additional comments, they’d think I’m careless and didn’t spend the time to proofread my application, but I swear I looked over the entire writing to make sure the quotations didn’t turn into a??s like it did with my personal statements.

Word processors contain hidden formatting characters that cause this, it seems. Best to copy and paste from plain text editors like notepad. You can tell Word to make your document text only or plain text.

I’m glad I saw this problem in earlier threads so I could advise the kids I help about that.

I think UC will be reading a lot of essays with ??

How horrible for the readers, but you won’t be alone.

Wait…if you tried to edit the a?? when you were reviewing your application, did it change it? When I was reviewing I saw the a?? and then manually did change it to apostrophes and quotation marks but it seems like even the application doesn’t support plain text? Ugh…
