Uc additional information essay!

i am applying to uc berkley as well as UCLA, would it be akward if i write an why UC essay and then address why i want to attend both schools? would they think im just applying to ucla as well as a back up?
thanks

ideas wil be great!

lol what the heck? are u serious?

I’m not really sure what you’re asking for, but my friend applied to the UCs last year and wrote his application essay on why he loved UCLA. He was rejected by UCLA and accepted by all the other schools (except Berkeley)

im applying to both UC’s and im stuck on what kind of essay i should write in the additional information box… so i was thinking about a WHY UC essay…

Was that suppose to be an essay? I wrote nothing on there.

yea, its 500 words, i recommend you write something, the more u write the better they’ll know you

They already have two 500-word essays from you. Unless your additional information really needs an explanation, don’t write another essay in that section. Just list your points.

how come don’t write another essay?

you don’t need to write an additional essay unless you feel like it further strengthens your application

i can’t directly answer your question, but i can tell you what i wrote in that box.
and i got accepted (im now a freshman).

i just wrote stuff about how my high school offered no AP classes (i had taken none in high school). this explains to them why i have no AP courses, while many other applicants do.

What anwar4 used the “Additional Information” area for makes a lot more sense that what you want to use this space for. I would strongly recommend NOT doing that. That is not what the space is intended for.

In that space I just listed a bunch of awards and activities that didn’t fit in the space they gave me… (like 5 lines of text). I got into all the schools I applied for.

I don’t think they would enjoy another essay…

Another good use of the space by StarryNights… they are not looking for a “puff piece”, which is what a “Why UC” comment would be. It sounds like you want to throw a bunch of “stuff” against the wall to see what sticks… The UC application process is not like applying to a private school. You don’t really need to show any “demonstrated interest”, particularly when they are not asking for any.

Hey, sorry I’ll publicly apologize OP. : ] But yeah definitely don’t write a bunch of stuff that they don’t ask for. Like someone said up there, write award and activities that didn’t fit because i think they said that before in the earlier part of the app. Don’t try to suck up and say why you would love to come to either UC because it’s not going to help. They see you for who you are through your essays and gpa/sat and all the other stuff.

how about like a short essay talkin about a hobby i like to do when i relax, playing soccer on the computer or like collecting autographs?

How does that strengthen your application? There’s already a section for hobbies (and if there isn’t, it means UC doesn’t care). All this “extra” stuff should have been in the two 500-word essays already.

Adcoms really hate it when students write more essays than they have to, especially if the extra words aren’t significant.

The additional info section is just there to let you “explain yourself”, like, if you screwed up one semester and had a bunch of Cs, or if your school didn’t have as many APs as you wanted to take, etc. It’s not for you to volunteer new information.

“how about like a short essay talkin about a hobby i like to do when i relax, playing soccer on the computer or like collecting autographs?”

Nah. They don’t care about that stuff man. They don’t really want to KNOW YOU KNOW YOU in that way.

This essay is basically an optional essay, so it is definitely not a requirement (oops 5 years late(
