Hi everyone. I am a prospective transfer applicant (Fall 05) to UCB, UCLA and UCD. I have spent 3 years at DVC community college. I would like to know what my chances are for a Chemical Engineering major.....

(Stats)

CC GPA: 3.71

Have completed all the required lower division courses (Math, Physics, Chem, Programming, Engineering and English)

Member of the DVC United Engineers Society

Member of DVC Honor Society Alpha Gamma Sigma

DVC student council representative for the Muslim Student Association (MSA)

Certified Tax Preparer for the East Bay County

Volunteer at the Walnut Creek Alzheimer and Homeless Centers

Young Adults Teacher at the Sai Organization (Walnut Creek)

Chevron/Taxaco Intern for the upcoming summer (05).

I explained in detail about my EC's on my UC application and also in my personal statement. Also, as a prospective chemical engineering major, I described in great detail how my ambition for the major was created and how I plan to use my knowledge to better serve the society of California.

Please, any comments would be of great help. Thanks!

Hey mosharma134, maybe if you stop lying to other people when they ask for help, maybe someone would help you out.

But you know what, I am a nice guy and I will give you a heads up. With the kind of underhanded and dirty tricks you are trying to pull by discouraging better students than from from applying, the application committees will probably see right though your lack of character and probably reject you on the spot.

fyad don't know jack about me. Yes, I did get Stanford and Cal for Chemical Engineering. It doesn't mean that I accepted their offer. I merely told them my stats and if I got in or not. I DID NOT MENTION IF I ACCEPTED THEIR OFFER. I had to continue one more year at a community college because both schools did not offer me a complete scholarship. SO I TRIED AGAIN THIS YEAR......DON'T ACCUSE ME OF LYING WHEN I DID NOT LIE. I wouldn't lie in a forum just to get recognition. I am trying again this year so that I can hopefully get a scholarship to one of those schools. Over and out.

dude, what community college student would turn down both cal and stanford because they didnt offer enough. Surely not I. Most fellow community college students view CC as an academic purgatory. If I got accepted to either of those schools i would take it in a heartbeat!! without complete scholarships, no matter how much I would debt I would have to endure. I am not saying you are lying at all, it is just that it seems crazy to reject two of the greatest schools in CA. I mean, scholarships for transfers are so rare, who cares if its only partial. Ive never even heard of a full ride for transfers to either cal or stanford. Without bombarding mosh with accusations, im just curious, would anyone else hold out?!? You must be really confident man, cuz I would take their offers in a split second, partially cuz my girlfriend goes to cal. Ill ask her about the scholarships.

as I said again, after seeing a number of 4.0 students with similar accomplishments who get flatout rejected from Stanford and cal, i can only say one thing:

a 3.71 doesn't enable you to do the thing you are talking about now. if you really got in, well, more power to you, but realize that you are not a freshman, and most good universities view you as something expendable.

blackdream are you sure you mean cal? 4.0 transfer student rejected from berkeley? can you provide examples with GPA, major etc.? stanford I can believe..

again, i know a lot about rumors, but only those negative side.

i believe a healthy dose of put down can normalize a person's mentality. never get the hope up to high.

I personally never heard of it, but my PTK advisor told me that 2000 students applied to cal with 4.0 was rejected, he did not say whether it's transfer or not.

I have 4.0 and Berkeley fills my safety school, personally i would think most 4.0 students are admitted, since they work around a 3.5-3.7 GPA range, anything above that is probably safe.

Stanford i have confirmed samples. I have never heard of anyone got into Stanford with 3.71 though.

where did you PTK advisor find that stats?? I find it hard to believe that a 4.0 community college transfer student got rejected from berekely...I have head poeple get in EECS (the toughest major) with 3.75, 3.8...

What is the "normalization of a persons's mentality?" How do you objectify subjective mental states, much less assign them to an arbitrary scale?

NO. I have NEVER said that. I said you have good chance. it's just hard for me to believe you are still worrying about UCB and UCLA after you got into Stanford.

Stanford takes 10-20 transfers from CC, Berkeley up to thousands.

that cleared it up. If you had 4.0 you are not trolling then.
Still, I wouldn't worry about it, but you passed up a great chance to go to Stanford.

I heard of some family who sold their house to finance a Stanford education,

i wouldn't be surprised if they did sell their house. Assuming you complete your undergrad @ Stanford in 4 yrs., you would have already paid about 160K (40K per year). However, i believe that most students complete their undergad within 5 years.
