Hello CC memebers,
I was wondering if the GPA calculation for UC differ from other colleges? such as Boston University, USC, Tuft, etc...

they haave this thing called the academic index

Yes, they differ greatly, the UC GPA is their own formula just including soph and jr years and weighs only certain classes.

oh the certain classes are
4 AP’s [i think]
and they only give the weight for chem honors and english h [soph yr]

All AP classes are weighted, and a few honors classes may or may not be, depending on the school. However, only eight semesters total can be counted as weighted.

^All UC approved Califorina high school honors classes are weighted. AP is considered honors in the UC system. OOS honors are not weighted.

Also, I’ve said once and I’ll say it again: I have straight form the admission staff at Cal that the 8 semester cap means absolutely nothing unless you have straight Cs in weighted classes. It’s to determine eligibility only, except for 2 or 3 of the lower campuses.

When actually reviewing the application, UCs use the uncapped weighted GPA to get the real story.

Really? That is awesome.

Yeah, when I first heard about the cap, it worrried me too. Luckilly, it’s nothing to worry about except for in cases where that’s probably the least of your worries.
