this thread makes me happy i’m only a sophomore in hs, but it’s reassuring to know that there are others like me out there! i’m interested in archaeology, to be more specific. the only disappointing thing about this thread is it’s for UC’s, and i live in the midwest… anybody know anything about anthro/archaeology at colleges outside the UC system? or does anybody know if there’s a thread like this one, but for non-california residents?

School - UCSB (accepted at the other two schools I applied to: UCSD & SDSU).
Focus - Cultural Anthropology; wanted to take Anthropology of Religion at UCSD, but I decided on UCSB instead.
What you plan to do with your major - Get my MLIS at San Jose to become an academic anthropology librarian. Met a really nice anthropology librarian at SDSU. I think I would’ve gone there if it wasn’t for UCSB.
Favorite thing about Anthropology - Everything. There are so many subjects within anthropology; whether it’s physical, linguistics, etc. What’s not to like?

I want this thread to come to life again, I would love to communicate with other Anthropology majors! I’m currently in the TAG process and will soon start my apps as soon as they open!

I realize this is 4 year old thread but I was wondering if anyone could tell me my chances.
Straight out of high school I when to Hawaii pacific university and studied business. I only studied business because I had no idea what I wanted to study. I earned horrible grades, ending my 1 and only year with a 2.4. I did not enjoy living in Hawaii or attending HPU so I returned home to Southern California. For the next two years I faded in and out of college and was still screwing around. After about 3 semesters I had 5 F’s and 1 A. I dropped out again. A year later I met an anthropologist teacher who was amazing, and he influence and inspired me to pursue a degree in archaeology. I always wanted to be an archaeologist but I didn’t think it was a realistic goal.
Once I knew what I wanted to study, school became fun and fairly easy. I turned all of my F’s into As and I’ve made the deans list the last 3 semesters. I will also b eligible for AA for transfer in Anthropology. I am now 25 years old.

Now the questions:
I currently have a 3.71 at my cc and expect after this semester to have a 3.75 or 3.8. Unfortunately my Hawaii gpa (2.4) is combined with my cc gpa and I belive it is around a 3.2. I realize a 3.2 is not very competitive but in my UC applications I told them my story and also that I hoped I would b viewed as “that was then, this is now.” Which I’ve heard they sometimes do.

I’ve applied at ucb, ucla, usd, ucsd, ucsb, and ucsc.
I also applied at a handful of csu’s but I was wondering my chances at these uc’s. I obviously would love to attend Berkeley or UCLA, but are those out of the question?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the late post. Thanks again
