Uc appeal!

Hey guys so i was rejected from UCSB and UCI.
I am going to appeal but I don’t know how to write it. I have mentioned that I have a 3.29 UCGPA and 1750 sat. 300 hours of community service and did sports
My stats are very low because my father’s work collapsed and I had to work 32-40 hours a week from soph-junior year, destroying my gpa.
My mother could not work because she cant speak English, she never graduated high school and my father only has a GED.
We are ethiopian refugees and are a family of 8 with <20K a year.

What I never mentioned was that my cousin was killed from an unrelated drive bye and my father was injured in a robbery and couldn’t work for a while so we were in homeless shelters for 3 months until I had enough money to get get my family of eight a small place to stay. I could never study for the sat so a 1750 was all i got for the first time. I go to a good school in which i have to take the bus far away everyday. My mother overdosed with oxycotin but thankfully survived As for my friends and relatives, they have not
I worked fulltime at a transportation company and 20 additional hours at vons.
Now, my dad has a full time job and i am only working 20 hours a week, we are in a better situation now.
Do you think my appeal has any weight at all? THANK YOU FOR READING!!!
I got into UCR with full aid but cannot go there. Too far

“I got into UCR with full aid but cannot go there. Too far”

Where do you live? Just curious as to why UCR is too far, but UCSB and UCI are both ok?

I don’t have specific advice on how to appeal, but Ms. Sun has posted on her blog about appeals:

Your reasons do have legitimate weight, but because they’re so significant, you’d have to explain why you left that out in your app in the first place. Other than that, just try your hardest to write the best appeal letter possible and they should reconsider.

@ucadmitted
the reason why i left that out because i felt ashamed. I dont really mention this to anyone. because i get embarrased and it hurts. but now i feel it is necessary

I think you should consider whether you’re prepared for the workload at UCSB/UCI. If you get full aid at UCR, I don’t see why distance should be a factor since it’s pretty close to Irvine and dorming would be free for you. It seems like a prestige factor, which doesn’t make your concern less legitimate. You need to think though. Even if you do get in on appeal, would you be able to handle the academics? Grades are far more important.

I am 100 percent sure i can handle the course load because taking the sat once without studying, i realized could do better if i put my mind to it which i couldnt at the time. Anyway, I am willing to go to UCR but i am seeing my other options. The material in my classes at school are doable but it is just the circumstances that I am in. I am not in thoses circumstances at the anymore. Thank You for the input.
