There's no such thing as a failure who keeps trying.

bluevartouhi, I had a feeling your appeal might not have worked. But by the time I read your post you already turned it in.. ><. The thing is I know a couple of people that got into Berkeley through appeal. But they sent in so much stuff! They sent in a couple articles they published, a couple of recommendation letters, photographs of their art work, etc. So if you're really going to try again.. I would suggest doing something like that.

I think the letter of recommendation should be no problem... but I can't think of what else to send. I don't write for the school newspaper, nor do I do any type of art. Is there anything else that you think might help?

I was also thinking, if I do the visiting another UC thing during the fall, and get good grades, do you think that would help me in getting them to let me transfer in the spring??? It would show that I am capable of doing well in their classes.

Send in more than one letter of reccomendation. Why don't you call the admissions office about how to get in for Spring?

Don't you have to turn in a SIR to your backup school soon? I wouldn't jeopardize my admission to another school to continue pursuing Berkeley. What other schools did you get into? I'm sure you'll do fine anywhere else, and like someone else said on this thread, there's always grad school.

I don't quite understand how you could transfer after you did the "visiting another UC campus" thing in the fall. I thought that was only for current UC students (correct me if I'm wrong). Even if you somehow did that, I still don't think they want anything other than junior standing transfers.

Um, I am a current UC student... does that clear that up? :)

Thanks for the tips, fayetti, but from previous experience I haven't found the admissions office to be very helpful. I called in one time and the admissions officer I spoke to was very rude to me, and not at all encouraging. She just said "no" to what I was asking and hung up on me. But I'll definitely try again, maybe I'll get someone nicer.

As for more than one letter of rec, I think I'll definitely give that a shot, except I think a letter like that should be glowing and I don't know any professors here well enough that would write me a really glowing letter. I can think of one that might do it. The others might not know me well enough to be able to be gush.

Also, I was thinking maybe I should try to publish something in a school publication, maybe in our undergraduate research journal, and that could be a sample of work that I can send in with my appeal. What do you think?

I think its a good idea but for the spring. I would think that all of their spots for the fall must be filled to capacity and you'd have to have someone really mess up for an opening in this year's fall class to open up a seat otherwise all your rec letters and articles would be for admission in the spring quarter if you dont mind waiting that long.

You go to Irvine right? What's your reason to transfer?

Oh, I definitely don't mind waiting. :) I can just go to Berkeley Extension in the mean time, or do the inter-UC visitor thing, and go to Berkeley as a visiting student for the fall semester, until I'm officially admitted in the Spring. Although I don't exactly know how that program works, and if I'd be allowed to do it in my case.

I guess go for it...but Irvine is a really good school. You are better off than a lot of people who couldn't get in to Irvine and better off than a lot of students across the country who don't have the benefit of the great CA-UC universities.

Yeah I think that's good. Make sure it's REALLY good though, something that will make them realize they made a mistake in not admitting you... good luck!

Being a UC to UC transfer means that you really don't have anything to loose; you still have a great school like Irvine to fall back if the Berkeley does not work out. That's why it's a good idea to keep trying! :)

Bumpity bump.

Hey a transfer student got in through appeals to UCB! You should ask him what he did!

Thanks! :D
