UC Application Deadline for Transfers extended until January 4th?

This is great and all, but it would have been SO MUCH more helpful if they announced this a week ago, or at least not after the supposed November 30th deadline.

wow… why would they announce this AFTER the original deadline…

Because I’m sure there are thousands of responsible applicants who’ve missed the deadline…in other words, I imagine most people have already submitted it by now.

Wow. Well they are adding 5000 more CA students next year. But it’s definitely unusual. Plus, they opened spring enrollment at UCI and Davis.

I’m somewhat irritated by it. Those who actually cared about the deadline had to deal with their application over Thanksgiving and while studying for school and preparing for finals. I got my application in and I feel it’s very competitive, but it’s the principle of the matter and a deadline is a deadline.

Procrastinators who likely had little intention to get their application in now have a second chance and can deal with it after finals have taken place.

It’s not the end of the world it just seems like a weird move.

This was probably done after the deadline because it was aimed at people who weren’t really considering applying to UCs. Although any efforts to increase admissions and our acceptance chances is a good thing IMO.

There have been so many unusual things this year I wonder what’s going on behind the scenes. Maybe they’re changing systems and there have been glitches. But I agree. If you say something, stick with it. You look desperate, if nothing else.

If there were backend issues or server issues or other issues with the system that created issues for some, I think that would be a great reason for an extension. This does little, if anything, to affect me. Again, it’s just the principle of a deadline. Good to know that people’s first impressions of the UC system will be that deadlines don’t mean much.

Also, it would seem like backend issues might result in a week extension. Not five weeks.

Also, the more I have delved into the UC system the more I see there is a loophole for almost every single iron-clad rule.

Whatever. At least we got the application in.

It’s really odd, in my mind, because it seems that very few people would actually utilize the time - the people who have already applied should be done by now. They gave an extra day, too - I doubt that many people missed it? There has to be some alternate reason for why they extended it - perhaps to get other people to apply, but who knows?

Further odd because the TAU will be only a couple of weeks later…?

@goldencub exactly! I would love to be a fly on the wall.

And good point about TAU–
If it’s anything like last couple of years, TAU opened around Jan 7 (if memory serves).

wow that’s just ridiculous. I’m not sure there will make more spots available, and since the # of applicants is going to be bigger, the acceptance rate would be even smaller.

Also, maybe they saw that not enough people applied on the 30th?

I can’t see this as being good news for anybody who submitted before Nov. 30th expecting it to be the deadline. That’s pretty annoying.

@forshevchenko, yeah I was wondering if they want higher numbers. They always talk about the numbers. I don’t think they care about procrastinators. And why only transfers? Are the numbers just substantially lower than other years?

Ugh wow slightly annoyed that we don’t have winter break to work on essays -_-

ALSO do you guys think this will delay finding out if we were admitted O.o?

I’ve found that other transfer students I’ve spoken to about applications really didn’t want to apply to UC’s due to the cost. Maybe not that many transfers are applying and going more for state schools? Don’t know.

Meanwhile the people who actually adhered to the deadline cant go back in and edit things… thanks obama

@Molisha from what I’ve heard, they were already planning to release decisions a little later than usual. All end of March-mid April I believe.

I’m also thinking they extended the deadline because they didn’t get as many transfer applications as they wanted. I’m hoping this doesn’t make way for too many more applicants that cause a decrease in the acceptance rate …
