I am in the process of applying to the UCs, and now, I'm in a corner.

In Step 1, under "U.S. Military Service" what do I put? I'm coming straight out of high school and I have no intention and have made no commitment(s) to go into the military.

On active military duty yes no
Veteran of U.S. armed forces yes no
Reserves or National Guard yes no

I have selected No for each one. Is that correct or what is supposed to leave it blank?

The wording of it ****ed me off and I didn't know what to do. I dont even know if this section applies to me. FML

As you are not on active duty, you are not a veteran, and you are not in the Reserves or National Guard, you are correct in choosing “no” for each. What bothers you about the wording?

thank you for clearing it up. I’m not sure what I was thinking but it may have been that putting “No” for active military duty may have been indicative of past service (except that you are no longer “active”). I’ll just put “No” for everything though. Thanks again.

Oh, I see. Those questions are to determine eligibility for some federal education benefits. Most freshman applicants will answer the same way you did. The application process gets so stressful I can see how an unexpected question could be upsetting. You are getting things done in plenty of time - you wouldn’t believe the number of applicants who will come upon that “Step 1” question at 11pm on November 30th… You are WAY ahead of them!
