Here is my question…the application deadline is before Fall grades are even published, around November. That means a transfer student still has a whole year’s worth of grades and possibilities that aren’t even reflected into the application. Only one years worth of grades. So if my current GPA is a 2.00 and I know I will raise it in the Fall and Spring can I even apply? Like if I go from a 2.00 to a 3.00 from now to spring. How does that work, if anyone knows please let me know.
You will update your application around January with your Fall grades. They will be counted toward your admission. However, your spring grades will not be considered for admission.
^ Yep
Thank you for your help!! (:
Thank you for your help (:
But - if your current GPA is 2.0, it is really unlikely you’ll be admitted to a UC this year. Apply broadly to keep your options open.
@NCalRent its a 2.22 right now and if I receive a 4.00 next semester it’ll be at a 3.22 after the fall semester… and i’m a COG sci major trying to get into UC DAVIS. What do you think about that? I’m also currently at a CCC and I know that they receive priority. Also, I know I will keep all my options open!!
I suggest you try using this GPA calculator and learn how to raise your GPA. Having 1 semester of 4.0 will not raise your GPA up 1.0 points. It will all depend upon how many credits you have now with the 2.22 and how many you plan to take for Fall semester.
@Gumbymom Hi!!! Thanks for the help! Okay so I calculated my current GPA using the link you sent me and it came up to a (2.15) when I added an F I had gotten (due to faillure to drop a course), without the F it is at a 2.55. I am now retaking the course this fall semester. I entered my fall classes assuming a 4.00 and replacing the F for an idea and it comes to 3.20. (18 units this semester). I actually have now stopped working in attempt to completely commit myself to school this semester! Thank you for the link and information. Please let me know what you think and any other comments please! Its very much appreciated!
@NCalRent Sorry! Ignore my comment! I had Wrong calculations!!
Your challenge is lead time - grades earned in Summer 15 will be the last ones you report on your transfer application. So 2.55 is what they’ll see. I don’t think that’s going to be enough to get you into any of the UCs. You can spend a year re-taking classes and getting TAG eligible - and applying for Fall 16 at a UC. Though be honest with yourself, straight As from here on out is probably pretty unrealistic.
Heading to your local - or a less competitive CSU is another option.
I encourage you to apply to a couple of UCs - but, also apply to some CSUs, not sure what you want to study but, perhaps Channel Islands or Sac State. See where you get in and make the call in April/May.
Good luck
^Agree with the advice for combination UC/CSU apps.
One thing I want to add is that transfer apps aren’t looked at until after the January update, so OP’s fall grades would be factored in.
@hkissanaaaaaaa To have that much fluctuation between GPAs and based on the numbers you gave places you somewhere around 20-24 units completed. Given that, don’t you think it’s a bit much to expect an overload of the required classes along with perfect grades in that short time span?
Also consider that the admissions committee will not give you the benefit of the doubt when dealing with Spring grades so your admissions folder will essentially read like a split of 2.15 in 24 units (give-or-take) and then 4.0 in 18 units which creates a lot of question marks on your consistency as a student. Additionally you would also need to overload in the Spring '16 along with Fall '15 to meet the minimum 60 semester units required which is incredibly stressful.
If your dead set on a UC (or even a high to mid-tier CSU really), then taking the extra year seems like the optimal course of action as it alleviates both issues of helping you prove your consistency and reducing the overload.
In the TAP, for entering which high school you went to and graduated from, do you have to list every high school you went to? High school was about 13 years ago for me, and I went to 3 different schools before graduating so the exact dates of when I went to each high school is kind of fuzzy for me. Do I have to list every high school I ever attended or just the one that I graduated from? If so, how accurate do I need to be about the dates (I only have ballpark estimates of the months and years I went to each one)?
