UC Art Requirment

Hello Friends,

So I’m applying to colleges this year and I want to apply to a couple UC schools (UCB, UCLA, UCSD). I recently read the requirements and an art class is required. I have taken one semester of web design which is okay on the UC site but the administrator at Berkely told me it’s not okay. I also took a full year of Debate which is called The Art of Persuasion at my school. I’m really confused about how this art requirement works. None of the staff have given me straight answers. I just want someone to clarify this for me.

Also, I live in Chicago. Someone told me there is an exemption if you are in state.

Thanks,
Kush Patel

Here are some examples of Art requirements and they have to be at least 2 semesters or 1 year long class)
General Art
Drawing and Painting
Art History
Ceramics
Woodworking
Theater
Orchestra
Vocal Choral/Choir
Band
Computer Graphic Design (if UC approved)
Web Design (if UC approved)
AP Art History

Debate would go under “g” electives.

No exemptions for the “f” requirement for the UC’s. If you do not meet the a-g course requirements, then your application will not be reviewed. You can take the AP Art History exam which should fulfill the requirement, take a class at your HS or take a semester class at a CC.

If unsure about a class, call UC admissions to verify the class is acceptable. My son’s both took Computer Graphic design, but it was pre-approved for UC credit at their HS.

I’m probably leaning towards AP Music Theory. This is one of the few things that is making UC less interesting for me…
