*The Average GPA for 2014 may be 3.76: http://newscenter.berkeley.edu/2014/05/15/admissions-data-2014-15-transfer-students/

Hmm, UCLA gets less selective and admits 27.14%(Last year, it was 25.9%) of its transfer applicants with an average admitted GPA of 3.69(Last year, average admitted GPA was 3.72 for transfers) whereas Berkeley is tightening admission standards and is maintaining the average admitted GPA of 3.76~3.77. I wonder what’s going on at those two schools.

This is pretty interesting. Thanks!

The freshman numbers for Cal are what scares me for future applicants…

@cayton Berkeley was becoming very well known for their holistic approach to Admissions, which could begin to damage the reputation as the number one public university in the country. UCLA was becoming very well known for being very by the numbers and only taking students with the highest GPAs.

Neither school wanted to be known primarily for either of these. I personally don’t think it was a coincidence that these two changes in admission happened the same year. I think both schools needed to revamp their image in terms of admissions, so they modified their practices, so that they’re numbers would show that their respective standards are modifiable.

I think it will probably stay similar to this for the next 3 to 5 years, and then will see another shift.

Wow, most of the average GPA’s for different colleges/departments were in the 3.80 range. Isn’t it interesting that last year’s transfer acceptance rate was 24.4% and this year it’s 22.9%? I wonder if it’s going to continue being lower like freshman applicants.

Wait so I have a question…, maybe I missed it somewhere up there or something but anyways, these are the # of admitted students right? Is there anywhere that posts the # of students who accepted the offer of admissions?

^^^ That’s not available until after June 1 when everyone SIRs. Plus they have to get through all if the appeals.

@2016Candles‌ oh okay that makes sense. thanks!

What’s weird is that UCLA released the number of students who are enrolled for Fall 2014 @2016Candles‌ @Bookham‌

@chaoscuber‌ UCLA’s numbers only talk about applied and admitted. The “enrolled” column is blank.

I am honored to know that for my acceptance, four to five people were denied. I feel bad for them too :frowning:

@JewBacca‌

And it’ll probably only get tougher over the next few years to get a spot at Berkeley.

Be thankful we won’t be applying for Fall 2016 or 2017, lol

@2016Candles‌ In the powerpoint slide, it shows how many were enrolled (3100)

I think it’s the number they expect to enroll, not a hard number. Trends from previous years are around that figure.

I think UCLA has a lot more majors available (I could be wrong), which means more room for transfer.

Bump for the people who are panicking about their grades.

@calbro‌
You must thrive on the fears of others. haha

To those who saw this post, don’t worry. Just focus on doing the best you can. I got in with a GPA that was 0.20 less than my department’s average. So there’s hope… just really small :P

I actually meant for it to go the other way. I was driven to work harder when I saw the stats last year and and made me feel that it was within reach.

Hmmmmm…intrasting :-?

Saved for reference, these interest me as a transfer still undecided on which major to apply for – Sociology or Media Studies. I’d love to do either, but I want to apply for the major that’d give me the best chance of acceptance. Currently sitting on 3.82 with the possibility of 3.88 after Fall.
