Hey guys, I was wondering about the foreign language requirement for Haas. Specifically, on assist it says that I can fulfill this requirement if one “Receives a grade of C- or higher in high school courses comparable to the
third year level of any language other than the language of high school instruction.” I took Spanish 3 in high school and I got a B in it. How do I input this into the application? They say that this is a REQUIREMENT for admission. Would that “B” that I got in high school Spanish be affected in the calculation of my UC GPA or is it just a “Yes” or “No” kind of deal?
@Hardworker223 note in the additional comments that it is fulfilled via high school. You will send hs transcript for verification if accepted.
It will not be factored into GPA. Also, they won’t even see the grade until after you’re admitted.
@lindyk8 thank you. You’re so helpful to me =) Its kinda weird how they just say that it’s required for admission but they don’t specify how to give proof. Maybe that’s why 2/3 of applicants are disqualified? Or maybe I’m just not using common sense
Hmm, you have a good point as it is Hass. Maybe call them and ask how you handle it. I assume that’s how they’ll do it, and then kick you to the curb if you don’t deliver. I mean, they don’t see anyone’s actual ap scores until after acceptance, either.
Hey guys! I just created a transfer thread for UC San Diego applicants so check it out if you wish!

@lindyk8 I called haas undergrad and they said they access our high school transcript for varification if we write we took it in highschool in the additional comments box. And they also said the high school grade is not factored into our college transfer gpa.
thx for update @hardworker223.
Are 3 extracurriculars + 72 hours of service good enough? You see the 20 choices for the extracurriculars and you know its bad… gg have like 3-4 legit activities… might have to put in garbage stuff
@EECSProdigy that sounds fine, although I don’t know the ECs.
Quality over quantity every time. They can tell if you have BS on your app.
Honestly, i’ve spoken to the campus reps and for them, it’s GPA over everything…
like EC’s are cool and all but at the end of the day it all boils down to GPA
Idk man if I get straight A’s and some other kid gets straight A’s, but Im just hanging out at home watching Greys Anatomy while the other kid is out there in soup kitchens, Im pretty sure he will have the edge…
@themightybicycle But Berkeley has a holistic approach to who they admit. There are cases of kids with lower GPAs getting in over those with higher GPAs in the same major. Happened at my CCC. MikeSauce has a point.
Which major? @selimpride
Psychology.
Two girls. One had 3.65 and the other had a 3.8.
The 3.65 girl was AS president, student ambassador, and volunteer at senior citizen home for elder patients suffering from mental illness such as dementia.
The other was club president of something regarding transfer and was a tutor.
She was cool with it though, she wanted to get into UCLA and did.
@selimpride well, that makes sense. It is holistic admissions - the benefits of stellar ECs definitely add weight into the application, especially for a competitive major. I’d guess that the 3.65 student had excellent personal statements, judging from her dedication to numerous extracurriculars (namely the senior citizen home, as that is somewhat related to her major).
If you’re applying to Haas, of course you’ll want to have ECs in addition to a high gpa, as the latter by itself likely isn’t good enough. GPA is probably the most important factor, but if you make yourself stand out in other ways, well, it definitely helps.
Also, if the 3.8 student didn’t complete all requirements but the 3.65 student did, well, yeah.
my major is really competitive… a lot of people are going to have 4.0’s + 2-3 LEGIT activities. EECS and Haas people really get screwed over… The payout/opportunity is really solid though… VERY solid. I’ve heard for Haas people GPA is like 50% or something. I think Haas weighs GPA,ECs, and PS differently than other majors. Other competitive majors such as EECS and Mechanical engineering just require absurdly high GPA’s with as many “strongly recommended” courses as possible. Because a lot of these are not offered at CC, they know who actually spent time completing them through concurrent enrollment/summer sessions/private universities, etc. I’m guessing a lot of Haas people are going to have 4.0’s since there are less prereqs/hard math-science intensive courses. It’s going to come down to good PSs and ECs for these people. Everyone else GPA should hopefully be fine… big hopefully there lol
It honestly grinds my gears when people LIE to get an “advantage.” Exaggerating is one thing but completely lying is another. Completely goes against the berkeley principles… I hope people who lie on their apps get caught. Sad that some of y’all were mentioning it…
@selimpride yeah, i know berkeley has a more holistic approach. guess you have a point!
