Hey guys!
I am a CCC student, applying to UC Berkeley Fall 2016 to transfer Fall 2017. It would be amazing if you guys could chance me!
Overall GPA: 3.80 (3.85 after this spring, so that’s what I will be applying with).
Major: MCB (Emphasis in either Neurobiology or Immunology and Pathogenesis).
IGETC: Will be completed Fall 2016.
TAP: YES
EC’s/work:
Volunteered at a community library, volunteered at a nursing facility, tutored elementary school students, I volunteer at a hospital, I have shadowed a doctor, MESA program, Honors Program, Alpha Gamma Sigma Club, American Medical Association Club, Honors Club. I’m currently doing my own independent research on brain activity and brain tumors. I am a Student Ambassador at my CC. Lastly, I’m becoming a Phlebotomy Technician over summer, so will be working as a phlebotomist in the near future.
Awards:
I have received an award for Most Improved in Varsity Boys swimming in High School during my senior year (this was the first time I swam competitively in my entire lifetime! Never had any lessons before going to the first day of practice that season, lol.)
MVP for Varsity Boys Swimming in High School! (I believe that this shows how hard I work towards the goal I set fourth for myself, since I had no prior experience of competitive swimming.)
Also received a Scholar Athlete Award in the recognition of outstanding academic achievement with a 4.80 GPA (ranked #2 in my class in High School!)
Now, the question that comes to my mind is… Should I include all these awards from my senior year of high school?
Also,I have gotten a couple recognition awards for completing honors courses at my CC (for Honors Program).
I will be completing my last two honors courses and then will be receiving the Honors Scholar Award from my CC.
Other things:
I’m South Asian
Pre-med
First Generation college student
Currently, I’m not sure what to write on my personal insight essays… any ideas?
I just got my acceptance letter for Spring 2017 admission (I find it really bizarre that I didn’t get into the Fall 2016 semester, but I digress.

Major: Economics
IGETC: Yes
TAP: No
No extracurriculars
Work experience: Paralegal
Awards: Dean’s List

Hey everyone!
I’m a California community college student in my second semester, and I’ll be applying this Fall for admission in Fall 2017.

Hi, also a CCC student.
Overall GPA: 3.75
Major: Nutritional Science (Dietetics)
IGETC: Will complete by Fall 2016
TAP: Yes
HTP: Yes
MESA: Yes
ECs:
My TAP counselor keeps emphasizing the importance of more extracurriculars to me, but I’m barely keeping up with the ones I have. We’ll see how the next year goes.
@cydkim I think you have a decent amount of ECs already! It’s strange that your TAP counselor is telling you that. From what I know so far, it’s more important to have your pre-reqs done, have a good GPA, write great personal insight essays, and a few outstanding ECs. Your ECs look great to me, so I don’t think you should stress too much about having more.
Can anyone chance me?
I currently go to Cal CC and am an international student.
I will apply this fall 2016.
Major: EECS
GPA: 3.98
Major GPA: 4.00 / 1 W on math (Diff. equation)
// I’ve fullfull all requirements. (including in-process and planned)
ECs: 1 non-major related club vice president, 1 major club (doing a small project), tutoring (math and computer), making apps for iphone/ipad.
Nothing much on ECs. There is nothing more to do as an international student.
I am so nervous currently.
If you need more info. plz reply
Thank you in advance.
Dam, all pre-reqs done? I’m a high school senior and I want to transfer as an Econ major as well. Any tips? What gpa do I need to maintain?
@theKwekster I’m not sure about freshman admission as an Econ major since I was a transfer admit. But, from what I understand, it’s incredibly competitive…
@cydkim Hey! Your stats look great. I’m a fall 2016 CAL transfer and I would have to agree with @caliguy925. Although I would advise for you to list all of these great EC’s on the app, try to stick to the max 3 in the fall. You can mention one in any of your personal statements what exactly you did and how you grew from that experience. In my opinion, GPA (although I didn’t have a great one when I applied lol), pre-req completion, EC’s + how they added to your skills/career goals, and personal statements are the key things to focus on. Goodluck!
I’ll be applying as a CCC student. This is what my profile should look like by application time.
Major: Psychology (Pre-Med)
Overall GPA: 4.0
Major GPA: 4.0
IGETC: Done by this Fall 2016
Major Pre-Reqs: Done by Spring 2017
TAP: No (Berkeley’s TAP doesn’t reach my school)
EOPS: Yes (just applied this month, but pretty sure I’ll get it)
E/C:
-Vice President (VP) of Active Minds chapter
-Vice President (VP) of Psychology Club
-Fellowship job position with Active Minds national organization
-Inter-Club Counsel representative for Psychology Club
-Volunteer at city public library
-Volunteer at county hospital
Awards/Honors:
-Bronze Community Service Award (recieved at a banquet)
-Humanitarian award (granted to the Psych club, also at a banquet)
-Honors program/honor courses at my school
-Honors Society
-HTCC member
-Dean’s list every semester
Just wondering if somebody could chance me and tell me if there are any areas of improvemnt I need to make. I worry that how I’m doing right now and what I have (will have) will not be enough. Advice appreciated. Thanks.
@Mezona You’re fiiiiiine. Just keep up the good work, and make sure that you’re completing all of your requirements.
intercampus transfer from ucm
Overall GPA: 3.66
Major: Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (may do applied math instead… Does Cal give you the option to choose alternate majors?)
IGETC: no (almost done with GEs in general though)
TAP: No
Pre recs completed: yes, and much more!! (Taking upper div classes) also have some recommended classes fulfilled as well
ECs:
Applying to transfer (also to ucsd, ucsb, ucla, and slo) because ucm doesn’t have the major I want to pursue, which is electrical engineering (currently CSE). I anticipate that my essays will be VERY compelling to compensate for the gpa lol. Will most likely talk about how my passion for electrical engineering has not been apparent in coursework, but only through extracurricular activities. I got A’s/A-'s in all my classes except for Bio (B+) and Introduction to computing II (B+). First semester gpa: 3.9 second semester gpa 3.5
I hope my reason is good enough for me to get into at least one of these schools!! If anyone can chance me that would be cool
I’m a CCC student.
G.P.A.: 4.0
Major: Chemical engineering/ Chemistry
Igetc: Not even close
Tap: Nope
Pre reqs: Will be done by spring 2017
ECs:
Chemistry Club
Middle eastern arts club (I’m mexican but I just joined to be on the good side of one of the chem advisors at my school)
Summer internship at UCSB (this summer)
Internship at my school’s chem lab
I originally got into 5 UCs out of high school, but I said no for family reasons. Now I’m at my local community college. It has been way easier than I thought, and now I wish I went to one of those schools.
I thought Berkeley was what I wanted, but I’m unsure now. I live too far to make a casual visit to the campus, so I want to get a better understanding of the environment because I don’t want to pick the school only off of its name. I kinda want a chill campus. As a chemical engineer major, I know I will probably be stressed out a ton, but I still want the environment and the general atmosphere to be happy or something. Plus the whole part of being a very political and feminist campus throws me off a little because a very biased campus, left or right, might not be the best for me (I’m a little biased now).
The true appeal for me is the academics. I also want to go to graduate school of some kind, so I’m worried about my potential graduating GPA. I just want to truly consider all my options, something I failed to do in high school. I love school, and I want to know I will pick a school that I will love.
@goldencub How much weight do you think Berkeley puts on E/Cs and Leadership positions? As far as I understand it, it’s weighted more for UCB than the other UCs. The reason I’m concerned is because I recently found out that I won’t actually be a VP for one of the clubs I listed, but will still be on the cabinet (Secretary) of the club. It’s insanely trivial of me to ask, but do you forsee it having any impact whatsoever?
@Mezona Berkeley emphasizes how they are holistic in their review of applicants, so obviously extracurricular activities and leadership/officer positions will benefit you.
That being said, the primary criteria for admission is (1) GPA, (2) completion of all major prerequisites available to you, and (3) completion of general education (via IGETC or breadth for CC students). Essentially, they want to see demonstrated interest in your major and proof that you will be able to succeed and graduate on time.
tldr; you’re totally fine. The difference between a VP position and a Secretary position is incredibly negligible - what matters is that you’re involved in a club that’s closely related to your major. Even then, your grades are 100% the most important factor, so keep it up (but a B won’t kill your chances by any means).
Again, you’re fiiiiiine. I’ll be shocked if you don’t get in.
@caliguy925 I think you have a good shot at it. Not that I know much or have been accepted lol. I’m in the same boat as you
@4UCBClay: I think you should definitely apply. Your GPA is great, ECs may be a bit weak. On the other hand, i am also rather decent on my ECs too so yolo
Does anybody know if it’s worth taking the SAT again?

I saw the data on this site that @ucbalumnus was awesome enough to find and sticky at the top of the forum. From that I that I’m not to shabby on the GPA end. I like to think my EC’s are pretty good but it would be nice if other people could weigh in on both my GPA and EC’s.
