who got accepted last year who didn’t have the 4 address thing happen to them?
Accepted (for Spring 2019)
Economics (but Berkeley only admits you as undecided)
GPA: 4.0 (both overall and major)
Pre-Req: completed
IGETC: Finishing in Spring
ECs: Average (leadership role in a couple of clubs), Part time work during summer.
Essays: Average (when I read them now, I feel that they could have been better)
Accepted: UCSB, UCD, UCLA, UCSD, UCB
Denied: None
Anyone here knows if I can still apply for Economics if I join in Spring? I heard somewhere that you can only apply for it in Fall. If that happens then I will have to wait for a full year to apply. That will be a deal breaker.
For the future applicants, my conclusion is that for the UCs, the GPA IS KING. Out of HS my GPA was 3.8 (Weighted) and I was rejected up and down by all these UCs. I am so grateful for the CCC system which wiped my slate clean and gave me an opportunity to come back with a perfect GPA.
All other things have not changed much on my application but GPA has and it appears to have been the deciding factor.
Admitted! I honestly can’t believe this is happening, I was all set to go to UCLA and then…confetti
My friends (who applied for the same major) with higher GPAs did not get in. So here’s some advice for transfers: your ECs and your PIQs DO matter! I would especially stress the second part. I poured my heart into my essays, they were some of the most difficult things I had to write- because they were honest.

@cricketfan Congats! As far as declaring the major is concerned, the fact that you may have to wait until the following fall isn’t a big deal at all. I transferred to Cal last fall, and I only just declared my major this semester. The only difference is just that it may be a tiny bit harder to get your classes if you aren’t declared, but being a junior you get priority registration so even that shouldn’t be too big of a deal either.
Thank you all so much for the advice. I have questions regarding how I should finish my major prep courses by fall because that’s recommended. However, I am just not certain what classes these are. People mention prerequisites, major prep, courses on assist, and I just can’t figure it out. Right now, I have all the classes that were in the UCLA/CC articulation agreement for my major enrolled for summer and fall. Is this all the major prep people refer to? What else is included? Also, is it recommended to finish my IGETC requirements by fall? Is IGETC a part of major prep? Thank you so much for your insight.
@xxUCLAxx All major prep is are the specific courses listed on the articulation agreement between the UC and your community college for your major on assist. These are all the courses referred to by the term major prep. If there is anyway to make sure you have major prep completed for more than just one UC that would be ideal. What’s your major? Also, IGETC is not a part of major prep. Although it wouldn’t hurt to have it finished by fall, the UC systemwide admissions policies make it clear that IGETC does not have to be finished until the spring after you submit your application. I didn’t finish mine until spring and was admitted to both schools.
Hi guys,
I’ll be applying as a transfer this semester from California Community College,
Major: Environmental Economics and Policy (CNR)
GPA: 3.68/3.76 depends if I do well in my math class
IGETC: done
Major Prep done
W: 1
ECs:
I work part-time, although it used to be almost full time, which is why my grade weren’t as great one semester.
I volunteered in Indonesia for half a year with a non profit organization learning about environmental destruction firsthand. I was able to fund most of my trip to Indonesia with my savings.
I’m currently in the scholars program, used to be in PTK until this semester. Used to be in the sustainability club, but not much.
I was also adopted from China without knowing any English at the age of 10.
I’ve also volunteered at pre-schools as well as food pantries in high school.
Do my chances look good? Or is it a very slim chance based on my stats?
@LiBai123 you should repost this in the 2019 thread. Thanks.
I am closing this one.
