UC Berkeley 2017 Transfer Thread

Thanks a lot! @lexluther96

hey all, does anyone remember which majors for UCLA and Berkeley were closed as of December 1, 2016? It’s no longer stated on the website. Just found out that they closed some majors for those who applied during the extension period :frowning:

@eden97 All majors at Cal were open for the same amount of time. Nothing closed early.

So I need to complete the Pre-reqs, also known as IGETC, and if I apply this fall and have them done before I transfer, if I chose to go to berkeley, will I be good. What I mean is that I am applying this fall, and by my time of applying, I won’t have them done. I’m going to use that time to get pre reqs done. Could I do that?

Chance me?

What do you guys think?

@IvyLeague2 If you apply next fall, all pre-reqs and/or IGETC (whatever it says you need on assist.org) would need to be completed by the end of the follow spring semester prior to transferring. Nothing can be finished in the summer before transfer.

Definitely I will make sure to take care of that @briank82.

Do you guys know if there’s usually a Transfer Welcome day sort of event in May after decisions are posted on April 28 (like how UCSD and UCI have one in May)? I know Berkeley has an Open House on April 22 (AKA, Cal Day 2017), but I’m not sure if I’d like to attend just yet, since it would be sort of difficult if I am not admitted. I still really wanna visit Berkeley, especially if I am admitted of course, but I’d like for the event to be oriented towards admitted transfer students. Thank you in advance!

@plsacceptmeUCs Right? It would be so hard to go and then not be accepted. I’m going regardless, but only for a little while because I want to take the bus over to Davis and see Picnic Day! I just am going to try my best to not get my hopes up (and not take too many pictures lol). To the best of my knowledge, there is no welcome day geared towards transfers. I would love to hear if anybody else has any sort of information!

I’m just going to see UCB during my spring break since I have a couple of friends that go there.

Im a statistics major, and my overall GPA is 3.676. Without a UC transferable course it would probably be a 3.65. I have 4 Bs and all As. And I’ll be done with my IGETC by the end of this spring. My target schools are UCB and UCLA.
And I’m afraid that my GPA is too low.
My extracurriculars include being a dance teaching assistant (I’ve been dancing for 6 years) , being part of the math club, being an embedded tutor in my college, and I also worked in a tutoring center for elementary school kids for a while.
But here are more details. I took 14 units last semester, which no councillor would approve of, but I ended up getting 1 B and 3 As. Also, I took a chemistry course last spring and earned a B in it, and then found out that I didn’t need it for my major. And I earned the other 2 Bs in Calc 3 and Linear Algebra last fall…
Can someone chance me? What are my chances of getting into UCB?

@Rosedarling123
3.67-3.93 is the 25%-75% admit gpa range.
They also have a 30% admit rate for your major.

How are all you folks coping with the wait?

@Orangered123 fortunately i have been accepted to UCSD. Waiting on UCR, UCLA, and Cal.
I think being on this site enhances the anxiety!!

@Orangered123 Haha it’s a struggle! I’m trying not to think about it and am instead watching videos and researching where I have been already accepted: Davis (TAG) and UCSB. Oh yeah, and talking to other transfers on here definitely does help. How about you?

@Orangered123 I am good. I am 51 years old, so I don’t let the things I have no control over, control me. Congrats on your acceptance. I grew up not far from Santa Barbara. UCSB is a great school. I am 10 min away from UCSD so its a no brainer, however, if UCLA or Cal wanted me I would have to consider!!

@ald6191 That’s amazing! Congratulations on UCSD! I guess it depends on the person, my anxiety actually gets lowered by being on this site. I think it’s a product of knowing everyone else typing is also counting down the days til they release decisions. A sense of solidarity. Out of curiosity, what made you want to come back to school at the age of 51? Any specific field you want to transition to?

@doihaveashot2016 That’s a fabulous idea. I’ve on reddit’s applyingtocollege subreddit reading about freshmen acceptances and rejections. They’re interesting stories and keeps me hoping for the best when April 28 comes by. Congratulations on Davis and UCSB! Both fabulous schools.I have friends at both schools and they both love their uni’s. Same, talking to fellow transfers is keeping me sane. My friends who haven’t applied to transfer are somewhat sick of me talking about transferring, chances, ect. Fellow applicants though are more than happy to just have conversations about anything and everything. I think it’s a mutual understanding that it’s difficult to worry as much when you’re talking with another person. Takes the mind off of things.

I have a ticket to see Hamilton in SF right after my winter quarter finals end so I’m pretty stoked about that.

@Orangered123 My anxiety levels are reaching a high now lol…
A months wait seems to darn long to me. You never know what an admissions officer is thinking when they review your application. I’ve had friends who’ve gotten rejected with 4.0s and friends who have been accepted with lower GPAs.

@Orangered123 I enlisted in the marines at 17, married by 25, and became a self-taught accountant. Now I have a 24 yo daughter who is finishing her 3rd year of law school, a 21 yo daughter who graduated from college in 2016, and a 12 yo. I promised myself I would earn a bachelors before the youngest graduated from high school. Finished CC in 5 semesters (2 years), and am going into Poli Sci /Public Policy at UCSD, Rhetoric at Cal, History at UCLA, or Public Policy at UCR. I am looking to go back into the non-profit world, as many small grassroot organizations lack people that know the technical aspect of public policy. They are good at knowing what the community needs, but not at navigating the “system”. That coupled with a Masters in Public Policy should help me do that.
