UC Berkeley 2017 Transfer Thread

@relaxedsoup I’m hoping it’s a general notification people get if they make a Cal Central account right now in the timeframe or something. Interesting information though.

@doihaveashot2016 That’s a lot of pressure. It’s hard to give a full detailed account in general since there was so much but a lot was redundant and stuff we already have learned through our own research. Please feel free to ask about any specific topic. I spoke with an admissions officer for a bit and I spoke one on one with current students and sat through a presentation/talk about transferring from current transfer students.

No honestly, I’m very grateful for the information you provided. @Orangered123 Too bad you didn’t get much out of it, but at least it was a good time.

@Orangered123 It’s def a possibility, I made an account a few days ago.

Anyone else make a Cal Central account in the past few days? I was going to make a test account right now to see but the application requested a lot of “real” information and I didn’t want do create/instigate any sort of fraud so I closed it.

@Orangered123 I think it takes a day or two for them to accept your account and create it. So it has to be someone who already has an account. I’m sure there are a few people on this thread who do.

@relaxedsoup That’s true. Hopefully someone chimes in the next day or so. I was all pumped at LA accepting me when I didn’t have all their prereqs, suggesting Cal might also follow through. This has me down a bit though. Not too bad though. Hopefully we all get in and everything works out.

@Orangered123 Additionally, if this theory holds true, you need to think about it from a web development standpoint. The server isn’t going to update every single applicant who got accepted at once. It likely does it in batches at timed intervals as a background process when a worker thread (workers are processes that complete tasks for a server) is available. So, IF this theory holds true, perhaps the server doesn’t even update your application until tomorrow or the next day if you are accepted.

@Orangered123 I had 2 pre reqs missing for UCLA and they denied me. 3 missing for UCSB and they accepted me lol

@relaxedsoup That’s quite true. The prerequisite requirements are weird all over. I’m missing about 3 classes and they accepted me. Other people I know got denied and they’re missing one or so. I guess my GPA was solidly in the middle and they liked my EC’s, essays and other classes? Idk, happy I got in though.

Congratulations on SB! Sucks about LA, hopefully Cal pulls though. What did you apply as to both schools?

@Orangered123 Thank you! Congrats on UCLA as well.

For UCSB and Davis, I applied as a math major and got into both.

For UCLA and Cal, I applied as a Philosophy major and wrote my essays tailored towards Philosophy.

I initially was a Computer Science major but realized that I didn’t want to major in that field anymore. I already have a part-time job as a Web Developer secured, so I imagined that I could use my education as a platform to learn another subject other than CS.

UCLA didn’t have many reqs for philosophy, so they probably expected me to have all of them complete. No Philo classes articulate for Cal, so I guess I technically have all their prereqs satisfied. I took 1 Philo class my first semester, and I’m in another one right now.

I have a 4.0 GPA and aced every single Math and CS class, as well as have all of the reqs for CS for Berkeley. Although I don’t want to do CS anymore, I’m worried that they may read my application, see my classes and think that I may want to change majors once I’m accepted. I’m probably over thinking it, but it is still a worry of mine.

@smrider29 I don’t know where you got those numbers from. The acceptance rate for ChemE was 23% last year, ~50 people got in out of 200. https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major

Congrats to everyone who got admitted to UCLA today!! I was rejected :frowning: Hopefully Cal will see something from me that UCLA didn’t [-( [-(

@Orangered123 Hi! How did you make a Cal Central account…?

@Orangered123 You already got into a top tier school-- don’t freak out. Only a day and an half at this point! Count yo blessings

Accepted to UCLA with a 3.5 for anthro, 19 W’s, 3 F’s all repeated with A’s, total of 123 units not including this semester I am about to complete. I feel silly for ever thinking there was a rhyme or reason to acceptance or rejections. Have strong essays, I think that’s the only reason I’m at where I am…

@cspoon1126 thats right man, very similar situation to yours over here. Rejected from UCSD got into UCLA. Strong essays that help explain why you sucked earlier in your CC career and good ECs

@FaithGraceUC That’s true! Cal’s been my dream school for so long and I didn’t expect to get into UCLA so it comes as a bit of a shock and hasn’t fully registered in my mind. I shouldn’t be so quick to brush aside such good news. Congratulations to you on your own acceptance! 1.5 days. Hopefully everything works out for all of us.

@cspoon1126 Congratulations! Good luck on wherever you choose to go!

@Orangered123 how long do they take to respond with your calnetid?
