Same here. This is what I found from the past year- http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-berkeley/1481234-uc-berkeley-waitlist.html it literally varies from 0% to 100% lol the struggle.
And I’m debating whether or not to send in add-on materials too, Like a paragraph of my senior project. Thoughts?
Hey guys, I also got waitlisted from UC Berkeley
Here is a unique article on a change in Berkeley’s policies and how starting from last year, are relying more on waitlisted students than ever before:
http://www.dailycal.org/2014/04/18/uc-berkeley-admission-decreases-9-percent-due-new-enrollment-model/
Also got waitlisted…
I was somewhat satisfied about that until I found out that Berkeley changed its policy last year and are putting more people on their waitlist. :\
where did you hear this? can you post the article on here please @discombobulatez
I sent an e-mail to the admission office, asking the waitlist statistics for previous years…
But are you sure they change the policy last year? @discombobulatez
I think so, based on @ihaveafuture1106 's article. In past years they only put 150-200 people on their waitlist but last year they put a couple thousand. ;~;
Last year they had 2143 on the waitlist and 437 got in. Here’s the link. If you clink on the 'Applying" tab you’ll see it.

I was, unfortunately, put on the wait list for both UCLA and UC Berkeley. UCLA allows me to provide additional information when I accept, so I was wondering if there was a similar option for Berkeley. Will you all be emailing additional information?
To be honest, I don’t have something outstanding to show to them for my additional information…other than maintaining my Senior Grade…So I don’t know if I will be sending any, except maybe writing an e-mail as to why I desire Berkeley.
What kind of additional information are y’all thinking of?
@CarnegiePride If they accept additional information, I’ll probably tell them about awards won/volunteer work I did in the months after I turned in the application. I’m not sure if they want additional info though, the UCs seem pretty against sending in extra information (like rec letters, etc.).
last year Berkeley didn’t have a waitlist according to its own pubished common data set http://opa.berkeley.edu/sites/default/files/UC%20Berkeley%20CDS%202013-14%20%28July%29.pdf (page 5)
but it also says that Berkeley accepted everyone on the waitlist the year before, and the year before that
Has anyone called the admission office to
get the total Number of students on the
waitlist
@shrinkmom @geets1805 Does anybody really know what happened to Berkeley waitlists last year?
who’s got the stats… please share… expectation is truly the mother of all frustrations
How and where do we submit additional materials? Out of silliness I neglected to use my last essay for my UC App, and I would like to send one for this time around. Also I’d like to send my most current senior grades.
Okay so here is what I have. According to the alumnus from our school and other various people who got waitlisted to Berk and got accepted, they said UCB’s waitlist WAS very lenient until last year.
According to Big Future Collegeboard, 2143 was waitlisted and only 437 got in. Before last year, UCB only waitlisted a few and accepted all of those few. However, from what I’m hearing, the policy changed last year. And just from College confidential, I see a lot of ppl who were waitlisted.
One of the alumnus (waitlisted from Berk, but got accepted eventually) from our school also said UCB is not fond of accepting new materials (idk why). But I think I’ll still send a letter or some sort to UCB idk…
Sources: 6 alumnus from our school, who were all waitlisted but eventually got in + college consultants.
@carnegiepride Will we ever get to know the available spaces and total amount of people waitlisted this year? Or only after decisions are out?
I called admissions today. They said they offered waitlist position to about 3500 kids and do not know how many will actually accept a position on the waitlist yet. The admission period they will be offered will be for Fall. Housing is not effected. You will be notified if they are offering you a position well before the housing deadline. They will not add any additional items to your file if you mail in additional achievements. She said they already know they want you, they just don’t have enough room right now. Hope that helps! Good luck to all. For us we are moving forward with UCLA! This has been a very rough year for all high achieving kids. If you didn’t get your college of first choice, remember that if you are waitlisted a UCB, you have already proven you are awesome, and it is their loss if they don’t have room to take you.
My daughter was waitlisted, so I researched this heavily. Before last year, Cal generally waitlisted 150-200 students. If there were spaces remaining after the students who were initially offered accepted, then generally all waitlisted students were given offers. If there weren’t spaces, then no one waitlisted was offered. So, it was pretty much all or nothing. In most years, there were spaces remaining. Two years ago however, Cal miscalculated and more people who were initially offered accepted than what they wanted. That caused trouble for things like housing. To make sure that doesn’t happen again, Cal switched to a program last year of making less initial offers and waitlisting more students. This means that it is almost guaranteed that some students waitlisted will be made offers; however, it will be a much smaller percentage than it has in the past.
