UC Berkeley 2019 Waitlist

Last year, people started hearing back around May 7. I don’t know what the last day to commit was though, hopefully the same

Somebody should call the office and ask, how many opt in for waitlist, and how many enrolled…:stuck_out_tongue:

Already called today. They wouldn’t give an answer, and when I asked how many days would it take for them to give an answer, the lady just said they would never release that information (which is slightly odd considering it has been released in the past).
However, I did ask how many students were given admission in total, and she said around 11,000-12,000 students. From that, they are looking for 5,000-6,000 students to join the incoming freshmen class.

That is very odd. The information for last year’s entering class is published everywhere. It’s in the darn FAQ for this year’s wait listed applicants!

Frankly I don’t expect any more from admissions. I’ve had the same experience everywhere. They are the gatekeepers and they will tell you what they decide you need to know.

Has anyone else called admissions to find out how many opt-ins there were for the waitlist or how many people actually SIR’ed?

On a lighter note, where did you guys SIR, and for what major?
I chose UCLA for MechE.

I SIR’d on Friday to NYU for International Relations, but I’m rethinking my major. At Berkeley, I applied to L&S for Cognitive Studies.

I debated pretty heavily between USciences and NYU. In the end, I chose Usciences for Pharmacology and Toxicology.

This is kind of a positive note (maybe), but it seems that last year’s waitlist group for UCB was constantly posting on their college confidential page, so much that there were around 130 pages :open_mouth:
Is it good that there’s only five pages right now? Maybe we can hope that there were no too many opt-ins?

I bet the opt in percentage depends on who exactly is on the wait list (resident vs non-res, which Colleges, etc) and the school has been very cagey about releasing such info.

With all the politics surrounding admissions and how it relates to the budget and so forth, there is no telling what’s going on inside that office. I suspect past performance is not too indicative of anything.

Can anyone tell me what is happening?
I am an international student.
I wanna go to Berkey SO SO SO bad. Anyone with any statistics?

I’m am international student as well. But they have taken in international students in from the waitlist in the past.

So I sir’d to uci and they sent a housing email because they over estimated for admissions for the freshmen class now freshmen are going to be put in apartments in/out of campus. Which I’m assuming that they won’t pull out students from their waitlist. So like what are the odds of that happening at Berkeley. I’m starting to lose hope :frowning:

UCB will be going to the wait list, according to admissions there. No word on how many or how soon, but considering the impact it will have on the other UCs (assuming many wait listed students have SIR’d at other UCs), students will probably start hearing soon.

UCLA, who has more applicants, already released tons of their waitlist results.
Way to go Berk, our BEST public university.

I talked to an admissions officer and they informed me that they would begin releasing waitlist results this week.

Thanks for letting us know and good luck to everyone! I found a website on the UC system’s admissions stats that it put out recently. It’s very resourceful:

@sebsarion the latest they have is for fall enrollment/admission is for 2014, but a pretty cool source : )

@gaeunshi123 Were they able to specify if this includes the upcoming weekend?

No they did not.
