@emmarose98 Ahh, I guess so my fall grades are in progess too. So I get put IP ?? or N/A. Maybe we should call the admission office? Is it better to leave it blank?
@guavayogurt I hope so too. I know this guy in my school will actually attend CAL instead of Harvard. WHYYY??? I don’t know… People like him won’t give the waitlist people a chance I swear!
Does the date on which you submit the waitlist form (before April 18th) affect how your admissions decision is processed (aka is it rolling)? Or do they do them all after the 18th?
@pressieb Ah okay! Thank you
I made 2 b’s and 3 a’s in all AP classes and one dual enrollment at my states (Oklahoma) flagship university. Should I submit grades???
@Lifeissohard and @spicysausage no, you are unfortunately not allowed to submit an LOR. UC Berkeley has stated that it will only accept the information that is on the waitlist opt-in form, and will not take anything else (including whatever is sent by school officials). If you need an exact quote, here’s one from the 2017 March FAQ:
“All information must be submitted through the online form, and no other types of submission will be accepted.”
@historymajor21 and @Lifeissohard I don’t think the waitlist admissions process is affected by how early/late you submit your form (or at least it really shouldn’t). On the 2017 March FAQ UCB says “the wait list is not ranked” and also (I can’t seem to find the exact quote for this, sorry) after May 1 (or whenever) they will know how many spaces they have left… and then they’ll re-review all of our applications again and determine who to accept.
Basically, I think of the waitlist opt-in as either a choice to be rejected or have your decision deferred. If you choose to opt-in, all of us will then be competing against each other (fun!)
Is the wait list based on our high school? For example, if 3 people who were accepted from my high school decide not to attend then do they look for other people from my high school to accept off the wait list?
I recently got waitlisted at Berkeley and this past year i received 3 A’s and 1 C (AP Calc BC), should i submit my final grades or should i withhold them when i submit my waitlist verification?
@guavayogurt thanks!
I’m planning to not turn in the essay nor the final grades and simply put myself on the waitlist. Both are optional anyways, and while I do want to get into Berkeley I’m so burnt out by the process I’m ready to simply resubmit myself and see what happens…
@historymajor21 hey, what do you mean not turn in the final grades? Is turning the final grades are actually optional?? How do you do that? Just click “Yes” and leaving everything blank? And @woakley5 I do not believe it’s based on our high school. I think we competing within each other!
@Lifeissohard yeah I’m planning to pretty much not turn in anything and just check the box/type in confirm and then submit. I’m pretty sure they’re optional because the UCs don’t even calculate your GPA including your senior year grades, and Berkeley didn’t even ask for those grades at the end of last semester. Also, as a general comment to the thread, is anyone else planning to do this?
Waitlisted for Physics major (international student from China)
new SAT - 1510 (710 + 800)
toefl - 112
GPA - 4.29 weighted
once won the bronze medal of Chinese National Astronomy Plympiad
7 people of my school got admitted to Berkeley (I am sure at least 4 of them won’t go, they have somewhere else to go, ED, ivy, or something like that)
I want to be admitted so bad!! I’ve been dreaming about Berkeley during my whole application process…
The waitlist instead of admission is such a big shock to me… Oh God like my future suddenly got dim…
Besides, I also have this problem here, if someone could help me on this?

Thanks! And wish all of us best luck!
Waitlisted for EECS.
Does anyone know if waitlist admission is dependent on major/school?
For example, in order for me to gain admission, does someone from my major or school have to give up their spot?
Or is it more general than that?
Thanks
Waitlisted for Materials Science and Engineering
UC GPA: 4.23
UW GPA: 3.86
SAT: 2160
SAT Physics: 730
Good EC’s(science awards) and essays
The letter didn’t specifically say if I was waitlisted for this major, but it was my primary, so I’m assuming that’s what it is…
Anyone know what the yield rate for Berkeley is and how many engineering applicants get off the waitlist?
Waitlisted for Bio OOS
3.9 UW, 31 ACT (ah)
Good luck everyone!
@astroLyf Hopefully those four kids give us a chance and many students across the globe!! Don’t lose hope!! I have the same thing going on in my school, like since we all live less than 20 mins away from Berkeley, they just do not want to be close to home. Some actually want to go UCD or UCLA. According to https://blog.■■■■■■■■■■■/blog-0/bid/146515/Waitlist-Admission-Rates, 66.5% of people from the waitlist actually get off! Like what you said, people who get accepted to UCB, they tend to go to IVYs you know? Do not lose hope! Good luck.
@andone1818 Focused on senior year accomplishments and how they pertain to the major and the university.
What are my chances of getting off the wait list for EECS major?
@Lifeissohard Yes they have all kinds of reasons not to go…(But why one admitted to UCB wants to go to UCD instead?) And I’ve got another question. Say the maximum number of students they want to gain this year is X, and so far they’ve given Y offers to this year’s applicants. What’s the relationship between X and Y? Is Y larger or equal to X? I hope it is the latter… I can see that you are so eager to go to UCB just as I am. what’s your intended major by the way? Ha this is kind of paradoxical; everyone here are on the same boat now and actually competing with each other, but still we are like a group and I wish all of us good luck!
@pack3rr So according to last year’s thread, it seems that admission is based off of what college you apply to in Berkeley (ie College of Chemistry, Letters & Sciences, Engineering, etc.)
The smaller schools (specifically CoC and Engineering) typically received acceptances before May 1st. L&S acceptances came out on May 2nd–but it seemed that most, if not all, of those accepted were in-state students (#OOSstruggles).
That’s not to say if you don’t accepted in the first wave (the one before May 1st) there is no hope… there still will be spots, as some of those accepted may not choose to SIR.
