Did any international student get in? Also are there any CNR early admits? Thanks a lot.
I got the email as well
Arenât there only 200 Regents+Chancellors (R+C) Scholars chosen by a group of committees (out of all the slightly-more-than 45K applicants)? I donât know how many are in the MET, but I believe its a very small group that isformed, (and that you have to declare MET as a course while applying for being considered for MET admission).
So i guess not getting R+C or MET doesnât mean anything for all the others, since about 44.8K applicants to berkeley still are waiting for their decisions whichâll come by 3/28. (As the few 200-300 have received theirs.)
Congratulations to all the Regents+Chancellors Scholars and MET! Great job!
thanks
for the guy demanding regents scholar stats
major: I think I chose computer science or chemistry? donât remember for sure
SAT: 1510
ACT: 30
SATII: us history 750, math 700
GPA: 3.8
Extracurriculars: photography, running
âStats is roughly 2/3 of what it takes to gain admission. So obviously it plays a big part.â
hopefully stats are not so important
@XlizGlubex they are important for general admissions, but by the definition of âholisticâ they are as important as any component in your application. So you dont have to worry about it!
Slight correction to my previous comment. There are 200 R+C Scholars, though maybe 500 or less people got to know of their decisions today (mostly admitted due to the interview invite for R+C finalization). From there on thereâll be 200 applicants chosen for R+C scholarships.
@XlizGlubex Your stats arenât bad considering the fact that a decent amount of people get in Berkeley with lower stats each year
Stay hopeful my dude! You really can get in.
Did any international student get the regents invite?
I think he did a good job in his essays describing his passion for science but that is all.
@ProfessorPlum168 Weâve only seen one person get into COC on this thread (although Iâm sure there are others not on CC). Do you have any insight into how they select? Is it more or less competitive to get into than L & S? Our D is âhigh statsâ and got the âwait until Marchâ email today. Are they looking for something specific? Thanks.
@2023graddad Congrats! What do you feel made him stand out?
@TheGuy1 Is it really only 200-300 that heard? I hope youâre right :).
@collegemom111111 I think Iâm right. I was about to mention my sources, but theyre pretty easy to find on the internet.
But since youâve exclusively mentioned that number, heres where I inferred that off:
âBerkeley welcomes around 200 new Regentsâ and Chancellorâs Scholars each year, and is the largest Regentsâ and Chancellorâs Scholarship program in the UC system.â
From the webpage: https://financialaid.berkeley.edu/regents-and-chancellors-scholarship
Basically the FinAid Committee and the Academic Senate Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships, Honors reviews all applicants holistically for this. I think most of the non-METâs who er by now get in UC Berkeley for sure, but they are very few in number (500 or below like i said before, shortlisted by the committees mentioned before). Then they invite them for an interview (mentioned in the website I have referred to, i think) to shortlist 200 for the R+C scholarship.
There is priority enrollment in classes and FinAid benefits to the R+C scholars (should you choose to attend) (which are announced in end-march, i presume).
Iâm sure thereâs no need to worry about negative outcomes due to this as almost all of the other applicants will hear back on or before 28th March.
Best of luck to you! Donât stress!
Also, I dont know how many apply for the MET program (since the applicant has to voluntarily choose the Program when choosing the major in a particular college), but the MET cohort for a particular year/class is very small (less than 100). They were notified of their decisions too. I dont know any MET accepted applicant whoâs also an R+C, but I guess Itâs possible since thereâs no type-of program-restriction for an R+C scholarship.
âI think most of the non-METâs who er by now get in UC Berkeley for sure, but they are very few in numberâ~ All if not most is what I meant to say
(Sorry for the spelling error here too. I meant âhearâ, not âerâ).
Have a great day!
@PM99292939 I think I did read about 1-2 international R+C notifications on previous pages in this thread.
@collegemom111111 Iâm sorry I misread your question. There were more that heard, that includes the people invited for the R+C interview (i think about 500, of which they choose 200 by late-march), and the very small cohort of 100 or less for MET (i dont know how many apply for this, but maybe all the applicants for MET heard back? again, I dont know about this). So you are looking at a rough number of 500+MET applicants, 500 of which most (or certainly) definitely got in (R+C shortlists), and 100+(other MET decisions) from the MET program.
â200 welcomed every yearâ means 200 R+C scholars for the class of 2023 in this case.
Thanks!
FWIW-the first year there were over 2500 MET applicants, however with them expanding their eligible engineering majors I am pretty sure that this number has increased. They shoot for an incoming class of about 50, I have not heard of any yield statics but these are highly sought after applicants. I did hear that there were a few R&C scholars but alot of the admits are OOS. Lastly, MET is externally funded, not by Cal, so they have been known to offer there own merit scholarships.
@TheGuy1 I think it looks more like this⊠â200 welcomed every yearâ means that roughly around 1800 students got invited for interview. And from that say 400-600 will be selected and 200 will accept and joinâŠ
