@TheGuy1: Use the RogerHub UC GPA calculator that was linked in post# 406. Simple and straightforward as long as the applicant is in-state. It will give you the UW UC GPA, Capped Weighted UC GPA and Fully Weighted UC GPA. Capped weighted UC GPA is based on 8 semesters of Honors points for UC approved Honors classes (CA HS’s only), AP/IB or DE taken 10-11th grades. Fully weighted gives unlimited Honors points for these same classes taken 10-11th only. Senior grades and Freshman grades not included nor are Honors points included for these 2 years.
@teambyerline it is mathematically impossible under most circumstances to have a UC weighted capped that is more than .40 greater than the UC unweighted GPA. You would literally have to take less than 10 eligible a-g classes in 2 years in order for there to be that big of a gap. The GPAs that you have is not specifying something accurately. My guess is that the unweighted GPA specifies includes 9th grade. I would not rely on the school for any GPAs, I would follow the UC formulas. If you want to, you can spit out your kid’s report card for 10-11 and I can figure it out within a minute.
Is a UC gpa of 4.29 weighted good?? I made B’s in my high school career, but all of them were in freshman year, making my gpa seemingly perfect? Like can you get above that for weighted? I was also going to ask if being an OOS student from Texas gives me a disadvantage. Do they only pull a certain amount of people from certain areas? I apologize if any of this has already been answered!
@teambyerline once again, the only way to have a spread of greater than .40 between the UC unweighted GPA and the UC weighted capped GPA is to have less than 20 a-g semesters in 10-11. A typical student will have 6 classes or 12 semesters in a year. You might have PE or something like that that is non a-g, but that would still make 5 classes, 10 semesters of a-g per year. Is your kid in 12th grade?
There was one kid who I recall who was on some quarter block system where 2 of the quarters were devoted to classes that were considered non a-g - that could be a possibility, but UCs would adjust accordingly.
@TheGuy1 as far as I kbow Berkeley never does rolling admissions. After R&C it’s only regular decisions on March end. Did u know anyone for sure that got? Where did u hear this one? I’ll be happy if they do start rolling out
Its a very very small portion (of statistically mainly Cali residents) who get in February into UCB with an interview offer in order to get the R&C scholarship (its a scholarship based off a committee seeing a small bunch of apps, most UCB admits dont get one, and deeming you worthy).
Yeah, I asked as my friend in Wisconsin said she heard back on 3/12 from UC Berkeley and Davis (the topic just randomly arose while texting). Idk how Davis works since I didnt apply there or research about it, but I thought Berkeley releases decisions on 3/28 strictly (after R&C decisions) like you said so @Suave123
I didnt see the letter myself, but I trust her. I dont think UC Berkeley especially rolls out with their decisions.
um… guys my portal just changed to 4 addresses, now i’m stressed… @Gumbymom was there any correlation with getting in last year and this portal change.
