UC Berkeley 2023 Applicants Thread

These are the L&S impacted majors, which as such may impact admissions decisions:
https://ls.berkeley.edu/advising/planning/schedule-planning/choosing-major/high-demand-majors

how impacted is Bioengineering?

@liaaa Yes. Extremely impacted, in fact.

Are there any statistics for the people who got LOR and ended up being accepted/denied?

@heeeeey A good assumption is a 50-50 base, but it is complex, depending on major, fit, and many other factors.

Most STEM related, especially almost all engg related majors are highly impacted. I wasnt sure what it meant before, but some research, and checking out the list above makes it clear. @liaaa and @lucyx12

What time do Berkeley decisions come out?

@MrMartador ??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️

Pls refer to previous comments made by me and many other users regarding this.

A: Check your portal.

B: 3/28 3pm PST

hi guys,

is anyone able to log into ‘calcentral’ using MAP@Berkeley ID?

Someone last year said on this forum that they were able to log in a few days - a week before the decision came out…

Mine just says “unrecognized login”

thanks

Everyone is anxious and looking for signs, I get it. BUT

  1. The cal central thing is INVALID.
  2. The two/four addresses is INVALID.
  3. The only “sign” that proved to be valid last year was when ucb accidentally sent out financial aid letters(to only a few) before acceptances. My daughter received one and was accepted.
  4. LOR requests are no longer random. A LOR request is a good indicator that they are looking for reasons to accept you, not deny you. They just need a final push.

Only a few days left and I want to wish everyone good luck!

@socalemma

I agree, except with one thing. I’d say that LOR’s are needed not of all apps (given that they werent sent beforehand), but of the apps that need additional data to be confirmed to be in (i agree with the looking for reasons to accept part).

Quite a lot of apps get in without the LOR request.

If u get a request, its definitely MOSTLY (no 100% guarantees here) a good sign, but if u dont, it doesnt mean that u wont get in. Many apps do without it anyways.

@jordanlaredo Everything looks good. But the overall fit of the app must be decided by the adcom, so I cant give a defo. dec.

@MrMartador No worries.

@guitarfish They lied. It only happens after a UCB student ID is given and entered. They may not be lying if they were GWP/MET/R+C admits, who get to know in February itself.

i know it’s pointless at this point but can someone chance me?

@ucbound1212 Everything looks good. But the overall fit of the app must be decided by the adcom, so I cant give a defo. dec.

@heeeeey I had one S get accepted with amazing LORs and one not accepted with more generic type LORs…so I think really good LORs can definitely bump up your chances…there’s a really interesting video on this somewhere online made by an analyst at Berkeley

@knowledgeispower18 may I ask what majors they applied to?

@lucyx12 Math & Social Welfare

I’m a little confused about LORs. Weren’t they submitted when you applied? Do AOs not review the LORs when they’re reviewing the applications or only when they’re considering admission?

Guys when are the decisions getting released? Is it definitely 28th March?
