After much anticipation and speculation, I finally received my decision from UC Berkeley at 3 pm today. I, and many people I know, have been accepted and I still can’t believe it! I have been accepted to all of the colleges that I applied to, except UCLA (waitlisted). I am so humbled by all of the opportunities that I have been offered from these fine institutions.
My stats are by no means the best since I only have a 1220 on my SAT, which is an anomaly for this school. However, my PIQs, letters of recommendation, and extracurricular activities/leadership roles were most likely the main factor of my acceptance.
I hope that you all flourish and prosper in the future, whether you choose to attend Berkeley or not! Feel free to post your stats in this discussion as a reference for potential students who are considering to apply to Cal next year! You’re all amazing!
Still super surprised that I got accepted. I applied to the school as one of my two in-states, and only because I appreciated their academic record. Although I am likely to turn my spot down, I am incredibly grateful that I was given the opportunity. For reference, here’s a quick rundown of my stats.
SAT: 1300 (though I didn’t actually end up sending these in)
ACT: 31
APs: World History [3], APUSH [3], Calc AB [3], English Lang [4], Spanish Lang [5]
Extracurriculars: lots and lots of Girl Scouts, Academic League/Decathlon
As of right now, Oberlin College in Ohio. I prefer small schools over big ones anyday, and it’s one of the leading colleges for my major. It definitely impressed me when I visited, though it’s possible I’ll now take the trip up to the bay area to give Berkeley a look.
I am contemplating between Georgetown (McDonough school of business) vs. UC Berkeley (Need to compete again in for HaaS school in sophomore year to get into HaaS). I am closer to Berkeley and it’s in-state tuition and ranked well above Georgetown in undergraduate business program and lots of students get into investment banking and wall street. But I also like Georgetown because of small class size and exposure to DC, but it’s $70K vs $40K. Although money is not a concern, is it worth spending $30K when I have UC Berkeley.
Would appreciate any input to help me make a decision.
@WantInternship@afdu0513 Hi! I was also having problems with CalNetID when they sent out an email about financial aid, but as an alternative there was an option to simply sign into the main browser with the same information that you used to log into your portal. Hope this helps!
@2018student Hi! Considering that you would have to apply to business school with an acceptance rate that is lower than getting into Berkeley itself, it is unlikely to feel secure in pursing that path since it is so competitive. If money isn’t an issue, the additional $30k that will be used towards Georgetown would not only be paying for your school, but another experience that is away from home while also receiving a quality education. Even though money is not a problem, I think that Berkeley can offer you similar opportunities to Georgetown at a much more valuable price.
Do you plan on touring the schools? If so, be mindful of how the environment makes you feel. Is there intensity in the air? Is this a place where you can see yourself for 4 years?
I am on the same boat as you so I know just as much, or even less than you so take my input with a grain of salt! Nonetheless, I wish you well on your college endeavors.
My kid had to call into IT support to get the CalNetID going. You need your official student ID, which he didn’t receive anywhere, but he did have one. The good news is that once you create a BConnected email account which requires a CalNetID, you get a great email ID with the @berkeley.edu domain!!!
CalNet Info - Hey everyone. I had problems too with error messages when I tried to create my Calnet ID and password. Here is what you do …
Get on your Dashboard on CalCentral (you do this by using your MAP@bekeley … Which is the email and password you used to check your portal, admission etc.)
Your name should appear in the upper far right corner.
Click on your name and a pull down menu shows up.
Choose Profile.
You will find your student ID number here (mine was 10 digits long).
Then you click on the Dashboard in the upper left hand corner and go back to your tasks to complete.
When you click on the create your CalNet bar (not sure this is what it was called cause mine is gone). A screen pops up asking for your CalNet ID … here you use your student ID number you got from your profile. After this you set up a new email ID (mine is myfirstname.mylastname … Berkeley automatically adds @berkeley.com to the end) and your new password.
When you login next time you will use this email ID minus the @berkeley.com extension.
Haas Undergraduate Class - Entering Fall 2017. Clearly getting in to Haas is doable.

34% Berkeley students (266/777)
.58% other colleges (106/1840)
16% other colleges (106/673) - minus the 1167 that did not meet eligibility requirements … honestly, if you can’t figure out the eligibility requirements before you apply you don’t deserve to get into any business school.

In my application I listed that I planned to take AP Mudic Theory and AP World History online, however I may not be able to complete those courses since I’m already taking AP Calculus online with those. Will my acceptance be rescinded if those two classes aren’t completed, it wouldn’t show up on my transcript because they were planned.
@Geminisaac Hi, I don’t believe that your acceptance will be revoked because your acceptance was not based upon taking those two classes in particular, especially if you haven’t taken the courses. I believe that you would need to contact the school to report the updates. If you are already taking the courses and have switched your schedule where your transcript may list courses otherwise, it may be viewed as inconsistency. However, I don’t believe it will be a dictating factor.
I would talk to your counselor if that is an option.
@lowkeycollegegal Thank you for your input! I went to submit the change, however it asks which courses I’d drop when I wouldn’t be dropping any courses, I just wouldn’t take the two that I had originally planned to take. Should I try giving them a call?
Curious as to why you would contemplate Georgetown for business over Berkeley. Not sure if you realize this, but Berkeley is near Silicon Valley and Georgetown is in, well, DC, not exactly the center of innovative businesses.
