UC Berkeley Admission

Hi, it's my dream to go to UC Berkeley and do the business program at Haas. I do understand that it is very very competitive to get into UCB as well as getting into the program. I know for UCB as a business major they accept you as undeclared and then you apply into Haas at end of Sophomore year. I was wondering if this is a possibility: i apply as an English major or something along those lines. I make my essays on point with me studying english and i make them think i wanna major in english. I hear the liberal arts have a WAYYY bigger chance of acceptance. I then get accepted, and change my major to Business along the way before my Junior year. Is this a possibility?

I am a Junior right now, very involved with ECs, i have a job, as well as hours of community service. I have a 3.6 unweighted, and sadly got a 26 on my ACT but looking to retake and get a 30+. I have some Cal alumni in my family. Can this all work out??? Thanks.

I don’t think alumni (legacy) helps for UCs. 3.6 UW seems low to me, and Cal really seems to put a lot of weight on GPA. Best of luck though!

Berkeley: Aim for 31+/2100+

thank you for all your helpful comments. i am just wondering if the major thing will work. like me applying into a generally easier major and then changing.

It’s definitely going to be a reach. Go for it, but don’t forget to apply to some easier schools as well.

Reach. Aim for 33+/2200+

I asked my HC about applying as an unpopular major an then changing, and he advised me not to (I forget why). That being said, if you are desperate, it might just work.

Chance back

Hi. id try and bring that act score up! as you can see from the other comments, in order to be competeitive you need to raise it up four or five points. wishing you all the luck in the world
